Musk has not lost any cash at all. When the media talk about these billionaires that is the value of the equity that they hold in their companies; not their cash in the bank. When the equities fall, so does the billions that they are supposed to be worth. They can only realise the cash by selling the equities, which would cause the value of the remaining equity to fall. Eventually someone will explain this to the morons that want a wealth tax. How do you tax a made up number that changes every day?

You are rather dumb ... if the stock value of Tesla falls ... guess what... the company's market value, in cash terms, falls ... How do you tax a made up number? ... simples ... by applying a tax rate to that number and issuing an assessment / demand for the resulting tax ... it really isn't that difficult

Fortunately, I am not as dumb as you. There is no cash involved here: these are bits of paper or digital records that are only worth as much as someone is prepared to pay to own them. The face value of the bits of paper is often only pence or cents. If you issue a tax demand and the only way to pay the bill is by selling equity then the market capitalisation of the company falls.
