i think you'll struggle to find the right 3 players in january as you'll want quality.

For me smalling and jones have shown they can cope.unfortunately rafael and fabio have not. covering right back and midfield has stretched you.

I think you'll buy in midfield now (one) and see whos available otherwise....

it'll be interesting but any way you cut it vidic was making things a lot better sice he came back and he's a loss. jones is the key now from an outsiders point of view.

I think it is probably the end of our League chances. There was still some hope whilst we were able to grind out the 1-0 wins to get us through our bad patches, but without Vidic that is unlikely to happen. I reckon we will need a defender in Jan, ideally someone experienced in the PL. Wonder if Abramovich would let us have Alex? ;) Or failing that I'd love to see Gary Cahill in a Utd shirt.

lol swarbs... but seriously I would laugh heartily if utd did go and take cahill out from under the nose of harry redknapp who's been mouthing off for near enough 12months about the player.

he'd be a good buy for utd too... interesting

We definitely need a centre half, both of those options would suffice.I also think we need a centre forward and a centre midfielder so the Glazers better get the cheque book out.

<ok>If the Glazers want Utd to challenge and qualify for the CL next season they must spend. They need to speculate to accumulate.

We'll qualify, I don't see anything other than first or second, probably second if I'm being entirely honest.

It might be they save it for summer but it's a tournament summer so that makes it more difficult. We'll probably have difficulty getting anyone still in the CL though so the transfers will more than likely have to be done in two stages. Which means the best CM's won't be available till summer, either of the of defenders Swarbs mentions would be getable this winter though.

Cahill would definetly be available as Ruff said. Is his contract up soon ?

I also think he would be a good call for a long term signing, ie to replace Rio <ok>

    I'll have a liga seeing i was a big child ;)

Seeing you lot spent big last summer and announced debt reduction (well we'll see the end of year accounts next year too) I think yuo will spend big but the question must be who is going to be available?

City will be at it again next summer so it'd be interesting to see you both going after sneijder for instance.

Chelsea will be bidding big as wel but somehow i think players will be looking at them as mickey mouse given what they do to managers. Depends on what they win.

It'll be just interesting to see the next "generation" or "iteration" ferguson comes up with cos honestly while guys defended obertan he was bad, maceda is no good either, bebe, diouf, and a few others... it'll just be interesting to see what team emerges in 12 months

Talking of a 'Liga', La Liga is looking good for the weekend - El Clasico coming up. Real at home and on a 10 match winning run and three points and a game in hand ahead of Barca, who have lost only one of the last 11 Clasicos.

Anyone want a bet on the outcome?

Remember that anyone who is still in the CL and wants a move in January will have to accept no CL footy in the second half of the season anyway, as they would be cup tied. It might almost be better sticking with our current midfield until summer - none of them are great but they are all at a decent level and we don't want to risk shaking the team up too much if we bring in a new CB. Going out of the CL also takes away the "how to compete with Barca" issue for another season.

I wouldn't say top two is nailed on right now - we're gonna need to dig deep to pick up points in winter with Vidic out, and our final position will depend on how well we replace him in Jan. But I reckon even our current squad would still be enough to qualify for the CL and make top three, even top two if our defence can settle without Vidic.

I support this, we should leave the CM's we've got get on with the job till the summer and then have a look then. I can't imagine the likes of Schweinsteiger (as an example) jumping ship mid season and this is the quality of player we need, not a stop gap.

We need a centre half now though, we're in trouble otherwise. I'd like Rafael or Donatello to get fit so we can give the Smalling/Jones partnership a run. It'd be great experience for them and they would cope with most sides.

Quelle surprise, Platini gets pissed off at something Utd have said or done. You'd think he'd be creaming himself that his two most hated clubs have dropped out of the CL...
