We know the club want him; we know Nick Barmby has said it must be 'caretaker' for now. Is it because he lacks confidence in himself? Or does he lack confidence in the club to back him? His first fully-flegded appointment will be very important to him - he has been working toward it for a long time.

    What's your take. will he, won't he, should he, . . . . .

I believe he will take the job full-time and see this season out.

He's made a good start, I'm sure he will be offered the job and don't see why he would turn it down.

He's already been offered the job... it's up to him to accept it.

If he had taken the job full time from the off and lost his first 5/6 games he would of been veiwed as the cheap option and god knows what.
The way he has handled it is spot on if it didnt work out we get a new manager and Nick carrys on playing and coaching.
I think he ll take the job I think he looks like hes enjoying it.
I hope he does I dont think I can recall a time when the owners, manager, players and fans have ever been so united.
    Long may it continue

I agree with this. There's no pressure on Nick to deliver promotion this season, if we continue to have a good season then I expect Nick to get the job on a longer basis.

"01482 Hull" sums up my thoughts entirely and also TWF in that he has been Offered the job! Do think Nick is the best for the club. Hate ppl talking about experience especially when we were linked with managers younger than Nick. You have to start somewhere and basically his whole life has been football. Sometimes ppl read too much into the role as manager. Players, money and a dash of luck also have their position to play. Good man manager have the best effects for me.

I'm happy as a pig in **** at the moment.

He's not that kind of guy. I mean, 99% of footballers/staff are, regardless of what anyone says, but Nicky isn't. He took an absolutely huge pay cut and dropped two divisions to play for his hometown club when he signed for us in League One.
I don't think he's looking to squeeze extra cash out of the club.

Whilst I don't believe NB is at all mercenary, ask yourself this: wouldn't you wait to see how much Papa Allam is putting into the transfer kitty in January, nefore you accepted the job?

Christ, mate, I don't! Obviously! Just speculation - like evertone else's.

But it could possibly be a factor to take into account. Yes?

I think he's putting us on hold until a better offer from a bigger club comes in.

I think he's taking it slowly, getting a feel for the job, seeing if it suits him (actually doing a job you think you'd like is different than just looking at it) then when he's happy, he'll accept and become the greatest manager Hull's every known. We'll go on a bad run and the minority of ****wits we have "supporting" the club will hound him out.

I reckon he is holding out for the x-factor result. Once that is over with, his mind will be more balanced.

Considering that this is the bloke who took a 90% pay cut to join us, I don't think that's likely.

Some interesting posts and opinions, but I am coming from a slighty different angle.

It does not seem that Barmby is solely motivated by dosh, although anyone who thinks that any negotiations regarding his new managemment career will be lightweight is just daft - in a nice way, though! It has been made very clear and very public that the Board want him on a contract and did so before any games in charge; so is Barmby being prudent and making sure that he is not railroaded by a set of very shrewd operators in the Allams and Pearson? Nothing in the least wrong by either party, just good, sound positioning.

    But this is my question:

Many of us had issues with some aspects of Pearsons time here, but there was a definite change of demeanour on the return from pre-season. There has been rumour that there has not been the purse support that was expected - I do not know if this is true, but . . . . There can be no doubt that Pearson has left with a very cold shoulder to the Allams and AP - I see more than his abrupt and cold manner at play in this.
Everything seems to be discussed around whether or not the Allams will offer it (the job) to him, or whether or not NB thinks he is up to it - although as said earlier, they have laid it on a plate. What if NB is very confident in his abilities, but less confident in the intent and nature of the support that the Allams are prepared to offer? Does he want to jump into bed with the owners of 'his' (like 'our') club without being certain they are all they say they are? Would he pass us over for another club that will not be so controversial for him should promises become compromised?

Whatever the answers or our thoughts, ity would be good to see it 'signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours' <party>
