Maribor are going OK in the Slovenia PrvaLiga, currently in 2nd place with 6 games to play. Top 4 teams get a shot at Europa / Chmpions league qualifying.

Also shorter distance to fly from Istanbul to Maribor, airport is only about 10km from the Ljudski Vrt stadium, so he will be dropping in there more often.

I don't think he is interested in Maribor at all, I never seen him talking about it on his interviews in Turkey, neither in TV shows. In many tv shows he mentioned Hull especially first couple of years (last year it is understandbly replaced by Fenerbahce), asked people to subscribe to social accounts of team but zero mention of Maribor.

 

I may be misremembering but I don’t recall it at the Plymouth or Oxford games
