I think those fees are way over what we paid. Plus we got about £35m in sales. Net spend was €80m so about £68m. Transfermarkt is fairly accurate with fees I believe. Harly spent anything compared to most PL sides. We will be fine compared to the last time we went down https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/southampton-fc/transfers/verein/180
Do the financial (PSR) rules apply outside of the Premier League? In other words, can we spend an obscene amount of money whilst we are in the Championship, so that when we are promoted, we start with a clean slate, and no concerns about overstepping any Premier League regulations? This does require us to have an obscene amount of money, and to be promoted at the first time of asking, but it seems to be a way of circumventing any Profit and Sustainability Regulations, imposed on Premier League clubs.
Other clubs seem to find different loopholes every transfer window, or just end up getting hit with minimal punishments for breaking the rules that don't balance out the benefits they got from breaking the rules. But you can be damned sure that were we to find a loophole, or just straight up break the rules, they wouldn't be so lenient with their punishments for us.
Funnily enough they just closed it - rules apply now for Championship clubs, due to Leicester playing it last time. Another reason to dislike them.
So i've been thinking about the team for next season and which positions we should prioritise to sign players this summer, I think we should look to sign starters rather than squad players. New GK New RB THB Edwards Welington Downes Charles Armstrong Fernandes New LAM New Striker Squad players: Macca, Lumley, New RB, Wood, Kayi Sanda, Bree, Manning, New DM, Smallbone, Fraser, Edozie, Robinson, Archer, TP, The two loans from Goztepe. I'll be disappointed if we go into the season with Baz or Macca as starting GK and I think it's time to let Bedders and Jack go personally and give Edwards and Wood a chance. Cash in on Sugawara if we can. Ramsdale, KWP, and Dibling are already gone I think. Edit: Ha!, I forgot about Scotch mist, I wonder why?...
Not sure about Welington really. Only played a couple of games and gave away a pretty clumsy penalty the other day. Wouldn't have him down as starter personally. Would go with Manning still at the moment, or hopefully Larios will eventually be fit enough.
I think Ryan Fraser will be moved on as well as Stewart. It would not surprise me if next season's starting XI will largely comprise of unknowns. I agree with the need for a new set of forwards assuming Armstrong is moved on but we need someone with a bit of character to lead the team on the field.
Nobody is going to buy Stewart and pay him anything remotely similar wage wise. He'd be daft to take a wage cut too. I'd like Fraser to stick around personally. Already loads to do for wide players and we know he can cut it in the championship.
I really hope that we make more intelligent use of the loans this time with two players of starting quality.
Yes, like David Brooks. Oh wait, we did that. Rothwell was decent as well. Not really sure they were an issue TBH.
Oh so you mean the loans that we had this season. I assumed you meant the loans we had last time in the Championship.
I took 'this time' to be referring to this time in the championship. Last time in the championship I'd argue all of our loans were at least partially successful. This season yeah we did terribly in it
