Yeah I keep thinking back to Lavia. We got £55m for a youngster after relegation. He’s better than Dibling and had 4 years left on his deal, but doesn’t play as premium a position (the English premium is irrelevant as Lavia would count for squad rules due to coming to the country at such a young age) Lavia was also subject to a bidding war between Chelsea and Liverpool and Chelsea back then were spending big on any top talent so we probably got more than we maybe should have. When I think about it like that I really struggle to see a scenario where we get more for Dibling than Lavia, and much more likely a fair bit less. £40m seems realistic, which is why I don’t understand the club publicly announcing the £100m figure before
Yeah I did think it made no sense to come from our side. No way are we ever getting that sort of fee for him so it was a complete lose/lose to announce it. Not sure how it benefits Spurs either tbh, but if that report is to be believed then it looks like he’s off to Germany. Leipzigs record transfer is €50m for Simons, imagine it will be similar (probably less) for Dibling
The version I heard was that another club came in and enquired about the price and quoted a soft low ball offer (I believe Spurs) and we went back with a throwaway large response to illustrate how seriously we viewed the approach, which then was publicised, but not from the Saints end of the talks
That’s pretty funny, almost like a sketch from a comedy show. Reminds me of the Liam Ridgewell story from awhile back. Still don’t see what they gain from leaking it apart from potentially annoying us into not doing business with them.
Yeah but I don’t see how that puts much pressure on? If they think that other clubs are just going to read an article online and be like “oh they want £100m, no point enquiring then” then they must be pretty stupid. If they think that by leaking that we want £100m we are going to cave to their asking price then they must be pretty stupid. If Dibling turns round and says “I only want to to go to Spurs, I won’t entertain going anywhere else” then we are in a dilemma if Spurs are only bidding £20m or whatever. But if the offer is seriously lowballing then we can just keep Dibling if he is not interested in going anywhere else. Selling Dibling for £20m now (I have made that figure up but that seems like a realistic lowball offer) or keeping him for next season, I think the club would rather keep him, and hope he can make the difference between promotion and no promotion. Big unknown is our finances really. We spent what like £150m this season? We may have to be looking to sell for financial reasons and Dibling may need to be a large chunk of that
Downes £20m Ramsdale £25m Fernandes £20m Archer £15m THB £20m Taylor free Lallana free Sugaara £8m Diaz £6m Fraser free Wood £3m Edwards £3m Ugo, Gronbaek and Cornet loan fees £2m? Probably on the low side that guess as well Feel like I’m missing someone but that is £130m roughly, and I think the loan fees will have been more.
My brother in law is a rare Utd fan who lives in Manchester. He scoffed at the idea of Dibling heading to Old Trafford as they do not have the kind of money mooted for someone who is unproven. It would not be well recieved by Utd fans and the local press has apparently not picked up the story either. The move to Germany would bea good one but i think Dibling would be the kind of player who would fit Spurs. I would be happy to see Dibling moved on but not to Spurs who i dislike.
What does Dibling himself want to do? What does his agent want him to do? I suspect two very different answers. In my ear on Saturday was a well informed view that Tyler is not actually pushing to leave.
According to Transfer Market it was €15m so I misremembered that one. As ever with transfer fees who knows how the deals are worded so can’t really be sure. Will have been incentives etc that we likely havent hit this season so hard to know exactly how much we spent. Squad is massive though (when I checked we had over 30 players under contract for next season) so I’m sure we will want to trim that and add players as well. Should be interesting at least
No idea. If he wants to stay then great but seems odd that he’s reportedly had a contract offer on the table for ages and not signed if he was keen on staying. He will be being paid **** all in grand scheme of football so if he did want to stay for at least next season you’d think he would’ve signed that for the pay rise ASAP. He should’ve signed it anyway then just threw his toys out the pram like VVD if a big team came in for him so he got a pay rise for the last 6 months of this season
As the end of the season is looming I thought I’d change the title of the thread, as hopefully we’ll be having a big purge and replacement window this summer.
