Was that confirmed? £80k a week when our highest paid player was on about 1/4 of that seems unrealistic. Take out Mepham and I reckon the other 10 players in our starting Xl are probably on about £80k combined
Bloody hell, crazy that mind. Straight from the horses mouth but something still tells me it’s not right who’s offering those wages at this level!? Suppose it’s no different from paying a £1m loan fee up front
Yeah totally, the hierarchy reassess the squad and the aims constantly and it seems pretty clear that the club decided promotion this season was worth a punt and to go for it. Think a few people at the club have been surprised just how well certain players have kicked on which moved the needle from a playoff aim to an automatics aim - which although we have probably fallen short of the automatics we are going to be in a fantastic position for playoffs where every other team in them will be knackered from trying to clinch top 2 or clinch top 6 last minute.
Not sure about that. We've been treading water for a while.....momentum coming into the play-offs has often been the key.
Southampton lost 3 of their last 4 games last season including a 5-0 hammering from Leicester. They won their final game against the run of play v Leeds and that was the springboard for playoff victory. . I'd rather have momentum than not of course, but a single result can sometimes be enough. Friday is a huge game mentally. Lose to Bristol City and they're highly likely to be our opposition in the semi final which gives them a psychological advantage. Beat them and they risk missing the playoffs altogether, going into a 5 way fight for the final 2 places.
Yep, I think momentum is overrated personally. I'd be more than happy for us to treat the next few games like a preseason, couldn't care less about the results just get everyone healthy and up to speed. As long as we play our "proper team" in the last 1 or 2 I'm happy
They knew that the summer window coming is the big test. The promotion party if it happens means they will need to replace not only those leaving, but also those not good enough. They know so many teams don't make it because of the spending needed. KLD will not use his own money to fund us staying up, he said that in the 1st month being here, oh and please don't think the sale proceeds will be enough, it won't. imho.
Yep,got it. I'm very low with this team at the minute,I think back to earlier in the season when we were fun to watch....I don't see that now. We don't score goals, our strikers seem to have dried up,although they have chances. Another season in this league building for the next is my best bet.
Of course, he could seek further investment Bob. In the circles his family moves, I'm sure there will be a few who would be delighted to invest in a Premier League club.
You get £138m over 3 seasons. That is if you go up and get relegated the next season. I thought that was going to happen to us, the usual thing is the team promoted via playoffs go straight back down… £31.4m equal share prem payment, £47.5m TV rights, £5m commercials. The £1.7m for finishing last. Then 2 parachute payments over the next 2 seasons £30m and £15m Bigger teams will get more as the get more TV and commercial activity. Survive 3 seasons and you get more. 3 seasons of parachutes more position payments. You also sell out your stadium and hospitality boxes. Brentford earned more from the hospitality boxes in the 1st season in the Prem than we earned from the whole of the old stadium, hospitality included, in the championship. The playoff game was called the £138m game as if you win it that’s what the club will earn at minimum. https://www.reddit.com/r/Championship/comments/1clf491/how_much_does_a_team_earn_when_it_gets_promoted/?rdt=35958#:~:text=£31.4m equal share,1.7m for finishing last.&text=Bigger teams will get more, more TV and commercial activity.[/QUOTE]
So circa £85 million plus match day income and clubs own commercial income. Aye, I bet the owners are longing to keep our circa £40 million total club income and continue covering operating losses......
We simply have to go up as soon as possible it’s that simple. Even if we get twatted every week and come back down we’ll be in a much stronger position than if we didn’t go up. Anyone thinking we can stay in the championship for a few more years and build a team capable of doing anything in the PL is dreaming.
Indeed. Having jobe and le fee is potentially a similar "cheat code" to when we had Amad. Let's get it done this season to save having to go again straight away.
I know it's what's needed for the club but will be grim for the fans as we get twatted every week, would hope we didn't but it's more likely than staying up!
