Just wanted to look further into Patrick Roberts to see if i'm missing something and honestly it's made me question even more why he's STILL a mainstay in the team. 3061 minutes played 72 shots (2.12 per90) 16 shots on target (0.47 per90) 22% shot accuracy 5.65 xG (0.17 per90) 4.07 non penalty xG (0.12 per 90) 0.05 xG per non penalty shot 2 goals (0.06 per90) 1 goal from open play (0.03 per90) This is the bit that gets me the most though, just 2 shots from 'fast break' attacks! Considering we play a counter attacking style of football that is so, so poor. Mundle for context has 7 in under half the minutes Roberts has played. The shot map makes me laugh. Every week we hear commentators talk about his threat cutting in on his left foot and shooting. What threat? The easiest job in world football is the left back playing against Roberts, either show him down the line where he refuses to use his right foot or let him go inside and miss the target. He has 7 assists this season, which is decent enough but when you delve into the numbers it's not exactly great. 7 assists 5.87 xA (0.17 per90) 63 chances created, any pass that results in a shot is classed as a 'chance created' (1.85 per90) 0.09 xA per chance created The creative numbers are mediocre, when you combine that with his non existent goal threat then you have a poor winger. When you have a player who has 55.9 touches per90 and 4.26 touches in the opponents box per90, they simply can't do as little as he does with them touches. That is valuable possession being wasted by a player who is inadequate. Completes 2.06 dribbles per90 at a completion rate of 49% and only wins 1.03 fouls per90 which isn't good for the type of player he's supposed to be. You can't have a player in the team simply because he's slightly above average at dribbling, especially considering he does nothing with the ball when he gets into the promising areas. This is one of the most experienced and one of the highest paid players in the squad, a player that has played Champions League football, won trophies and has large transfer fees on his CV. Yet offers less than pretty much everyone else in the squad. I'd wager that if we had an above average right winger this season we'd be in an automatic promotion fight. We can't go into next season with him being here, or at least with him being a crucial player.
Yeah, was bored and didn't think we would make a comeback so choose to meet some lads who I hadn't seen for a while. Enjoyed their company for longer.
Id give Roberts a try on the right see what hes like in case Mundles not back, he went over once or twice, beat his man & put a decent ball in, Wilson might feed from this, try Mayenda on the left & whenever roberts is breaking make sure mayenda makes the back post area in box. We still also need TW match fit as an option like it or not Thanks Smug.....yes i mean give Roberts a try on the left not right
It's infantile, or people are drunk ... ... in a match clearly for 'minutes' and experimentation people are demanding subs and changes in the game. I think social media is warping people's minds ... not in this case but some are even pretending they're at the match while posting, pretending they're leaving the match while posting, pretending they're bored with the match but still posting about it into the early hours. Either that or people think this is Facebook where they have to announce every emotion, where they are and what they're doing. And here's another one
Regis Le Bris on Sunderland attack and Wilson Isidor https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/25085662.regis-le-bris-sunderland-attack-wilson-isidor/ REGIS Le Bris says he's "not too worried" about Sunderland's attacking struggle in recent weeks and is convinced Wilson Isidor will soon rediscover his form in front of goal.... "Wilson was well connected with the game and I appreciated this. When a striker doesn't score he can be really frustrated and disconnected with the game, I don't think Wilson was. He was connected, he tried to run in behind... it's just a question of giving him time. "Sometimes with a striker all it needs is one event, it can change the dynamic. I'm really confident for the future. For strikers, the dynamic is often like that. They can struggle for long periods then it can click. We don't know why, when or how. But I was pleased with the way he worked with the team. He's very well connected and it's just a question of time." Asked whether the starting spot up-front is up for grabs as Sunderland prepare for the play-offs, the head coach said: "We spoke a lot together about not only the striker position. "Wilson fits well with the game model because he's always in behind and is a good finisher. Eli improved massively this season. He's more versatile so it gives us more opportunities to play with him as a striker, a 10, as a winger left or right. We need everyone fit and ready for the final stage." Sunderland struggled to create clear cut chances against Swansea, which followed the 0-0 draw at Norwich where they were again blunt in attack. Le Bris said: "I'm a little bit concerned, but not too much to be fair. It's a question of references. Trai played off the left so this disturbed the triangle we have built on this side of the pitch, for example. That triangle has worked really well this season. Chris today played as the eight on the left side, which is unusual... these are two examples that show how we do not have the same references. "We are trying to create some other ones to have more flexibility and when we are able to reset our references, I think we will be fine. I'm not too worried by this situation."
Definitely infantile marra, I’m convinced they are school kids with the rhetoric and language they use
Just my choice mate. Wasn't enjoying the game, had mates elsewhere so choose to spend some extra time with them. If we are treating the game as a training game, I don't value it's importance and picked to spend extra time elsewhere.
Didn't the people you were with think it odd ... ... mind you, it's good you have other mates in town who aren't at the match. I'm over for QPR and having a few after the game, it's normally a mad scramble for the train back to Central Station.
For you. But I have freedom of choice and more than happy with the choice I made. Got to spend an extra 30 mins with a mate before he had to jump on a train, and won't see him for a bit.
Nah. They were surprised we lasted that long. They had it on in the pub and were surprised more didn't leave early to our approach and performance
Why don’t you join them in the pub for the whole game next time and spend more precious time you seemingly prefer than watching the Lads
It’s been a cracking season, we are 4th in the league, guaranteed to be in the play offs, got the golden opportunity to rest and rotate so every member of the squad is in peak condition going into those crucial games (the only team in promotion contention who has that luxury)…..and yet still people twist. It’s embarrassing, immature and entitled behaviour. Did I enjoy yesterday? No. Do I get the wider context? Absolutely
I just don't get this at all mate, makes no sense. If your time with your mate was so precious why were still posting about how boring the match was during that time ... ... and back on posting about your boredom first thing this morning. Don't you think it might be boring and turning people off posting ... just a thought.
Because we watched it in the boozer whilst chatting. I am just trying to people who have asked me a question. That's all. It's not that deep.
