If people didn’t consume cocaine, nobody would bother making it, smuggling it or dealing it and the whole cocaine trade wouldn’t exist. Which would be an enormous win for the world. The point of the article is partly to draw attention to the damage that the cocaine trade does, something that gets ignored by those that casually consume it.

I don’t consume it so would be quite happy to see anyone dealing in it or using it shot.
As that great humanitarian Stalin used to say, “no man, no problem”.

I'd legalise it, tax it, take the criminal gangs outside of the supply chain. Treat it the same as alchohol. It's not really better or worse. You'll never eliminate the demand so why try.

a browser tip that might help some people.

i use firefox and i've a bad habit of opening lots of tabs. and i mean LOTS. especially youtube ones that i often don't get round to watching. also i have it set to reopen the previous tabs when i restart the browser.

i've recently discovered an option to unload the most resource-hogging tabs. this probably only works on firefox, but don't stop reading just yet.

in firefox, type about:unloads and press enter. eventually you'll only get as far as about:u before it'll autofinish.

this takes you to a list of tabs. there's an unload button that will unload the current worst one, listed at the top of the list.

what i've found since i started using about:unloads is that it lists all the hull daily mail ones together under the site name www.newsnow.co.uk and pressing the unload button will unload all the hdm tabs in one go.

what i've also learned is that the newsnow/hdm pages are THE most resource-hogging pages i ever use. something crap and inefficient is going on with them, possibly related to ads.

if you ever use hdm tabs, close them as soon as you've finished with them. this applies to all browsers.

Same Scouse rats that shoot innocent kids leaving football practice or are in their own homes where they should be safe.

Same scum ‘stuck together’ and wouldn’t say who’d pulled the trigger.

    Well done.

I wasn’t praising them. pointing out they were just as vicious. And just as despicable.
Would be in favour of capital punishment for them but no doubt others would disagree.

It’s a difficult one. There are many people that I would rather spend time with in a pub with a few beers, rather than sober. There is absolutely nobody that I would like to spend time with when they are coked up.
But saying that, it’s inevitable that people will consume drugs, so yes I would rather us legalise it, tax it and use the money to put right the damage caused by drugs. Same with prostitution.

The prostitution one is interesting. I know a few people that are involved in support roles for street workers, and from their perspective, a lot of what I think/thought is wrong, but among the bits I can't grasp is, if it's legalised, it implies controlled brothels, with checks and controls.

A lot of those active would never meet the requirements, and would still need the money for drugs etc, so I can't quite see how they won't still exist as they are now without being caught up in a wider support network for drug users.

    What am I missing?

You’re not really missing anything. Your right that a lot of sex workers now wouldn’t be fit to operate in a legalised setting, but over time, I would hope that having a safe option for those wanting to work in the industry - and those wanting to use the services - would reduce the extent of the illegal sex industry to a level where it would not be profitable to organised crime, I.e. get it back under some sort of control.

going back to the earlier discussion on the cocaine and drugs trade, another very interesting read here from the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3677xzk56no about barbers and vape shops. It’s quite interesting that the tobacco industry were pretty relaxed about the cigarette ban, considering the inevitable replacement with vapes. They have clearly just moved over.

And people would still import it and undercut the taxed product.

Why dont dealers and smugglers get the death penalty?
Its clear how much crime and suffering both direct and indirectly they cause to society
