What’s the saying”if in doubt kick it out” , if Pring felt he needed to intervene then he should have headed it out for a corner, it’s you that needs to stop digging. The fact is neither Vyner or Dickie would have done what Pring did, he’s not a centre back. He completely took Max out of the equation. You could argue max shoukd have been more decisive, but that doesn’t excuse Pring, if he didn’t think Max was going to get there he should have put it out for a corner.
I think Pring should not have been put in that position by his Keeper. O'leary should not have been on the six yard box. O'leary after making his first error, should then have stayed at home instead of leaving the box and committing further errors, O'leary challenges Pring who was attempting to head the ball away from goal.
So you think it’s ok for a defender to head the ball into an area where the attacker can score from rather than clearing it, or putting it out for a corner?, and that’s ignoring the fact that in doing so he practically headed it out of his own keepers hands?
Using that theory, shouldn’t the midfield not have put Max in that position - ludicrous methodology being applied here to hang Max out to dry.
O'learys position should have been in relation to the back line and the ball. His role was to control the space behind the back line. He failed to do this because he did not put himself in the starting position to do so. He should have been occupying a position between the penalty spot and the edge of the eighteen yard box, not the six yard box. Even with the poor positioning O'leary should have been able to make it to the edge of the box to make a simple catch, the distance was twelve metres, Pring had to turn and run back to the box, a distance far further than O'leary failed to achieve.
He would have caught it if Pring didn’t get in the way, and all Pring did was head it out of Maxs hands into an area the attacker could score from, why didn’t he at least put it out for a corner?
Max would have caught it if Pring had left it, but like you said if Pring didn’t think so, he should have put it out
All irrelevant, however the situation developed, at the time Pring headed it if he thought Max wasn’t going to get there in time, his job, at that instant, was to clear the ball, he should have headed it out for a corner, then argue the toss after.
The situation developed because of O'learys errors, unless you think the Keepers role is only to occupy the six yard box. When the ball is the opponents half, and the back line is between the centre circle and the eighteen yard box where do you think the Keeper should be positioned? Towards the edge of the box, or the six yard box?
Irrelevant at the point Pring headed the ball how the move developed , his job at that point if he felt max wasn’t going to get there was to head the ball out for a corner, that’s just basic defending, he panicked. Just clear the sodding ball.
