It is beautiful and deserves to be known as the Venice of the North. I spent a month there and the surrounding area back in the noughties. Kazan is also a fabulous place to visit. The chak-chak balls are the best in all of Russia. Kazan ranks at 48 on my list of favourite cities. Has Sir Keir reduced the boats? I thought the numbers were up.

Dresden is fine for a weekend, but no longer than that. Have you been to Hanover? It's a magnificent city with much to enjoy. It's family-friendly and has beautiful hotels and restaurants. Give it a go if you haven't been.
