Musk has done himself up like a kipper supporting Trump. Still the only car brand that has an instant 'one click' option to turn all the warnings and driving tech off when you start the car though.

And the cheapest rapid charging in the UK even for non Teslas at the growing number of their supercharging sites open to all, though why they are allowed banks of Tesla-only chargers at motorway service stations is beyond me. The government should legislate that chargers at motorway service stations are open to all.

If you need those intrusive aid to stop you having an accident or not having them increases your chances then you shouldn't be driving full stop.

    That's all drivers then.

Which in a way is true, we're the cause of the vast majority of accidents.

All drivers....you do love an overly dramatic statement don't you. There's millions of drivers that have managed to never have an accident before those "aids" were invented and there will continue to be more that won't have accidents when they turn them off...... If you need them to not have an accident then you shouldn't be on the road

It's not about need, nobody has mentioned a need.

The safety features decrease the chances of an accident, even if you're a big cool car man who's good at everything and very clever. We're all human. Turning them off increases those chances.

Odd how with all these driver aids the standard of driving seems to get worse and worse.

The biggest rise is among inexperienced drivers, including those not used to driving on the left.

There are also statistics that show whilst death and injuries are down, collisions are increased as more safety features (including seat belts) are added, possibly due to people feeling safer, so taking greater risks.

It has been said that one of the best safety aids for reducing collisions could be a big sharp spike from the steering wheel to the drivers chest, just to keep the driver focussed.

The majority of deaths in collisions were wearing seat belts*.

    *I know, I know...percentages.....

Stop start and lane departure warning are the two I turn off every time I get in my car, they're not needed. That said as all new cars now have to have lane departure as standard, the government will save a fortune on rumble strips on motorways, or not. :emoticon-0138-think

One of the most dangerous things I find with EVs are the 'paddles' on some models to use regenerative braking. I think it's too much for the brain to think about sometimes braking with the footbrake - eg a rapid emergency stop -- and sometimes with hand activated paddles for regenerative braking, eg for a controlled slow stop or slowing down.

Yeah, felt the same way with one from my works car pool. But in a way, the modern car is being designed for a generation where a large percentage are used to computer gaming, so in theory should be easier for them..

Lane departure correction is an accident waiting to happen - overtaking cyclists forcing you back towards them - whoever thought that facility in the car was a good idea is a ****ing idiot - gets switched off 90% of the time- isn't long before I realise its still on

If your car is as dirty as mine you don't need to turn it off

Tried it once and quite liked it. Indicating I was overtaking a cyclist, or anything else, automatically switched off lane departure correction. Not a bad thing?
