I think any player who's scored 16 goals in a struggling team deserves a bit more credit than Johnson gets imho

Brilliant from Spence again and Ramsdale denies him

It's been a poor game between two sides with very little quality and little to play for.

19 fouls tells the story of the game. Very stop start and the ridiculously long VAR check just compounded that.

We should be beating these comfortably but there is still a visible lack of cohesion across the team.

So much better half. Fluid, confident and attractive football.
Porro and Spence both dominating their wings, Bergvall covering so much ground and Johnson doing what he does best..scoring

Trouble is, this is a dreadful Soton side we are up against.

Anyway, at least it's a confidence boost before Thursday

Disagree. Not that we are a poor team, but we have been decent this half.

We have once or twice, and he doesn't quite work there given CBs' bread and butter is players like him - which is why he's more effective in the space between the CB and FB

Tends to happen with players in the Jay Rodriguez role

    Solanke desperately needs a goal.
We have created a dozen chances this half and he's not been near any of them.

    Fair enough.

I don't see a team that looks anywhere near the level we'll need to win the EL.

Saints are a truly abysmal side. We should be putting them to the sword. We did it earlier in the season, but that level of football has completely deserted us since.

It’s not necessarily a poor game, we’re dominating by a country mile and having bags of chances.

It’s just our opponents are beyond shoddy that it doesn’t give any genuine signals that this will be an upturn in form. We smashed them earlier in the season too and that was our only win in 11 league games at the time. It’s very reminiscent of such.

Wouldn't disagree with this either. But we stand a much better chance of getting a result on Thursday playing with this confidence than if we'd gone into the game straight from the Chav non-performance.

Offside by a solitary hand! What a joke VAR is.

Southampton are so bad that they are making Spurs look good.

I need him to score a few otherwise I lose the bet with Pisk :emoticon-0107-sweat

He just never looks like scoring though to me. Grafts as hard as anyone but he’s just not a proper goal scorer. Done better than I expected pre-season but still nowhere near as good as we need him to be.

His goal return as many of us said, just isn’t good enough for someone who cost so much

More chance of a general improvement than if we'd been as bad as last game...and most of the season. <laugh>

2-0 up, but I just can't get excited by the game at the moment, just waiting for the next cock up all the time, next goal here is crucial whoever scores next will score at least 2!

Easiest game of the season, but still not seeing enough from Maddison.

He has a notable intangible, given his pressing is something which should create chances

The issue is our setup makes those chances predictable as the wingers and at a push Maddison are the only players available for them, unless one of Sarr or Bergvall has made a run

Without RCL-ing the **** out of it, I’d be amazed if we lost this.

I even predicted a 4-1 win and I’ve usually been predicting defeats for the last few months, lol.

This lot are beyond woeful… so bad they’re making us look good <laugh>

Releases Son with a great pass, but skipper dwells to long and loses the great opportunity
