I might well be proved wrong about finishing outside the top 6, but some of you guys really have gone too far with top 3.
Of course we can do it theoretically - win our 2 games in hand on Forest and we're just 1 point behind them. Plus we have a good mostly fit squad full of confidence right now and a good run coming up. More likely is that City will get 3rd now they don't have Europe to be bothered about anymore. I think we'll finish above Villa and Chelsea, but not City and tough to catch Forest now. So if I have to make a prediction right now, it's 5th.
I posted this on a different thread, but probably more apprppriate here: I really don't care now. We won the cup. We had the best weekend ever. Any improvement in our league position is just a bonus now. And if we we don't improve on it, oh well! Still the most successful season in my lifetime. Obviously would love us to compete for CL places and longer term for PL champions. But right now, I'm in a happy place.
This is the same position everyone should take, but unfortunately many have become so fixated on finishing top 4 that the first cup win in 70 years, will be soon forgotten. I don't think anyone would have wanted more than to simply see a cup win for Newcastle in their lives , but now some of the fans will simply brush that off, and keep raising the bar. The younger fans will be ****ing awful because they've not taken enough **** to be qualified. The reality of our future is highly entitled fans and journalists taking every opportunity to divide, and split opinions.
Believe it or not mate, I genuinely only wanted a club that tried heading in to the takeover. And they have already exceeded that. Many others said it. But some of those also actually expect / demand more. Of course I want us to compete and win more. I'd love us to. But like I've said before, 'wanting' is not the same as 'expecting' or 'demanding'.
I am in the boat of push as hard as we can but what will be will be. We have a good enough squad to get top 4 and that should now be our adjusted target. We have some winnable games and we just take each game as it comes.
