http://www.greenun24.co.uk/ipswich-...n_a_year_in_upgrading_their_academy_1_1148133 Surely for a club of our size there shouldn't be any debate at all about investing the money in grade 1 youth status for our academy! This is what Ipswich Town Football Club is all about and if Evans and Clegg are so obsessed by throwing away good money on over aged has beens on Million Pounds a year contracts then we are doomed! Clegg obviously hasn't got a clue about the rich traditions of our once great football club. How will the club progress in the future without investment in youth? This club is in a complete mess and I honestly rue the day when these clowns took charge of the club. Our debt has doubled and we have gone backwards. The constant statements Clegg makes of returning the club to the Premiership at the earliest opportunity is now in complete tatters as we fight to stay in the Championship. When will people finally wake up and realise that as long as Clegg is at the club we are doomed to failure.
I can't see the logic in not having the academy. The only thing that balanced the books this year was the sale of Connor! surely they realise that this is the best investment they could do for the club! on the other hand, Cleggs in charge!
I really like this bit of wisdom from ****wit Clegg. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The chief executive said: “You have to ask what are the benefits? One of the benefits is that you can ‘poach’ on a wide basis. “But realistically, how many parents from just outside Newcastle are going to let someone under the age of 15 relocate down to Ipswich? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOOK AT OUR HISTORY OF THE PLAYERS WE HAVE PRODUCED YOU ****ING MORON, DID THEY ALL LIVE JUST DOWN THE ****ING ROAD YOU ****ING TWAT!
The Budgies have upgraded and so have West Ham. If we do not then the best of the local young talent will be picked up by our closest rivals. I don't agree with what the Premiership has done in fact I think its immoral and disgusting but we MUST compete with our rivals or die. Sir Bobby will be turning in his grave if he knew what was now going on at Ipswich Town.
Maybe Clegg dosen't realise that Warky, Gates, Brazil, Beattie, Osman, Burley et al came through from our youth system. Not to mention great local players like Clive Woods, Trevor Whymark and Terry Butcher. This guy is a complete idiot!
Perhaps he thought they grew on the decent footballer tree, and all he has to do is buy some of jack's magic beans!
chilling stuff boys. i'm totally against the new EPPP rules but they are going to happen so clubs will have to adapt. must say i'm relieved my own club have decided to go 'category one' but would be surprised if ipswich don't go down that route too. it strikes me that your owner isn't in it for the long term - the academy is ALL about the long term of the club. why would you choose against it unless you are planning to leave? its surely not money that is the motive - you all tell me he is loaded. mind you, he doesn't pay your rent, however controversial that may be, and he has pocketed your wickham money. maybe i'm wrong but there does seem to be something more sinister happening at the portaloo these days. maybe he wants to sell your training ground (sorry - forget the name) for housing? does he own that? to be honest i'll be pleased if you opt out - it will mean all the promising players in east anglia end up at norwich!
I have got to the stage where I will not be renewing my Season Tickets next season unless Clegg is booted out and we finally get an experienced football man in charge to run the football club. The PJ saga is just a symptom of the general malaise and I am only going to games now because I have already bought the Season Tickets for this year. Forty years of faithfull support home and away have been reduced to this! I will always love this club but I am not prepared to shell out any more of my hard earned while this current shower are in charge.
warky, get behind your team for goodness sake! they need you when you are struggling. if you can't go for financial reasons then thats totally different but if the reason is because you aren't happy and can't be bothered with them cos they aren't very good then i think you are at fault warky. support your club through the bad times not just the good. trust me, when you come out the other side it makes you feel a million times better. us city fans may bang on about attendances (well, actually i don't) but we never gave up on supporting the team, no matter how bad things got. we had 25,000 the week after losing 7-1 at home in the third tier of english football. THAT is support! i feel that ipswich's recent poor support deserves an equally poor team to be honest. there's nothing you can do about clegg or the owner.
Superman, I really don't think that ME will do a runner. After all he owns our debt so unless (As i have stated many times) he can find somebody to buy the debt and want to run a football club or sell at a incredible loss he has to be in for the long haul. You mention the rent saga, As any good businessman would do, he has questioned the legallity of the back dated part, he is willing to pay the huge increase. Now to the Academy part, as stated before it would make no sense in not stumping up the cash as the club would run at an incredible huge loss every season without producing good young talent which we regularly do. But in producing this talent, we have to give them the platform to do it which is the first team and at this moment in time our younger players are being stifled by not being given the chance. This mainly falls to the feet of Clegg and his operation premiership quote, every manager will feel under pressure not to take risks with younger players because of the cloud of getting to the premiership as soon as possible! Lets put it this way, If we were without ME's money I would bet my life on the fact that players like Luke Hyam, Josh Carson, Jordan Rhodes etc etc would be playing for our first team at this very moment instead of playing reserve team football or being sold.
good points guru i just offered his imminent departure as a concept - after all, it does seem weird that such a wealthy businessman would consider £1.5m a year as a risk when you consider the pros and cons of being category one. by the way, i reckon you'd have been promoted by now had magilton been in charge and evans never come along
Superman I don't think you are in any position to accuse me of being a fairweather supporter after nearly 40 years with 25 of them being a season ticket holder. There is plenty that we can do about Evans and Clegg. Simply dont turn up to games!
Never in a millions years would coco got us promoted, If we would have had Joe Royle then yes i'm sure we would be in the premier league. Warky is right, the only way ME and clegg will listen if they see their business plan go tits up!
i didn't know your background warky fair play - i've had a season ticket for 23 consecutive years out of the 30 i've been alive. there have been moments when i've given up, not wanted to go, even been embarrassed to be a city fan during that time but not once have i not actually gone and supported them. i'm not saying you are a fair weather fan, though plenty are! but its when your club is struggling and at a low ebb that it needs your support more. you must feel very strongly about the situation to take that kind of action. but i don't think your owner is bothered at all by diminishing numbers - your attendances have dropped every year and he still increased your ticket prices didn't he? better off getting behind the players on a match day. just a personal opinion - you don't have to take any notice of what i say!!
i think thats a bit harsh on magilton guru. he was doing pretty well till he got his hands on the wonga.
What makes me the most annoyed is the constant spin without substance, its like the club has been taken over by New Labour! And look how that turned out!
Idiotic decision if we don't upgrade. Not only will we not be able to attract players from all over the country but we will also be at the mercy of any grade one academy who wants to poach from us and pay us peanuts for what young talent we do manage to get in the door. Clegg is a numbskull if he thinks parents would block their childs possibility to make it in football because they have to move away. It has always been that way and always will. Where would the likes of Beckham be now if he was never allowed to leave London to go to Man U. How many top class players play for their local team, in fact, how many professional players play for their local team?
my fact of the day is that norwich tried to sign beckham as a 14 year old but he went to man utd while his cousin michael played for ipswich youth. not interesting but there you go!!
I agree with Guru. This whole thing just show's that Clegg knows **** All about football and **** All about the traditions that Ipswich Town was founded on.
