On the contrary, I don't think it's a healthy thing when a mod is too frequent a visitor and contributor to a forum. Constant posting of opinion from a position of 'authority' can lead to the mod seeing the forum as a fiefdom. This is what happened to the Arsenal board thanks to a mod who is among the most frequent posters on the entire site. His relentlessness and constant accusations against other members of following an 'agenda' led to a board exodus and it is now emptier over there than our trophy cabinet. Funnily enough, since being stripped of his status as a mod, this particular member has improved massively and I enjoy conversations with him over on the PL board. He remains banned from the Spurs board.
You are calling me on it but not providing any examples. I cannot take any action if you are not willing to point out what it is that has caused the problem. First and foremost, I am a poster who is as entitled to a view as anyone else. I have to be fair when engaging moderation, which is entirely a matter of opinion. We have one rule on the Spurs board which you will know. That rule is no personal attacks. I have engaged with the other mods and we will discuss this when they come on the board.
I think the reason he didn’t make it to the big leagues sooner was because he’s not that good. Celtic took a huge risk on appointing him and it paid off. He was hugely popular there and was able to have them playing some free flowing football. With Spurs and the PL however, it’s a whole different prospect and I don’t think he’s got the attention to detail or managerial qualities to make a success of it at this level. I don’t even see him as experienced because of the vast difference between the PL and what he’s done before. In reality he’s pushing 60 and only got just under 2 full seasons of top level football under his belt. If he was 38 then I’d have hope that he could develop into a good coach and would learn from his mistakes. As it is, he is what he is and that won’t change. In a way, I hope he somehow gets another job at a decent job after Spurs so we can watch from afar to see how he does.
The things that has kept me pro Ange are: 1.we attack and have been high scoring and adventurous in our football. 2. There was, for the first time in 5 years a real connection between the manager and the fans. 3.That had Burkinshaw been sacked when we were last this bad statistically speaking he would not have delivered the 1981-84 memories for us. For me, the first two points have crumbled. I don't like watching us play. We are simply boring most of the time and Ange has no longer got a connection with the fans. I get that fans who don't have a connection with the early 1980s will not have much time for my third reason but in all honesty that's all I've got left for not sacking Ange. I think that him going simply leaves us back where we were post JM...a car crash that no one wants to manage. Sadly few have any enthusiasm for the upcoming quarter final...the thousands and thousands of unsold tickets are a testament to that...and that is on the club, the manager and the team performances. Losing is fine...**** happens...but dull losing football is unforgivable imo
I'm one of those too young to appreciate your Burkinshaw point but I'd still question it, simply because the game has changed so drastically since that era. In the 1980s, the global average tenure of a football manager was over 2.5 years. It is now slightly less than 1.5 years. Just one example of the sea change.
Keith took us down...but Stevie P went to the board and told them that the players backed him 100%. That summer Stevie P turned down an approach from Liverpool, in their pomp. I don't know who Levy would listen to, or who would be worth listening to...but results based on money spent, and the fact that opponent after opponent says that they know how to beat us, should give even COYS Daniel a pointer that Ange's time passed months ago.
Our inability to track both Palmer and Enzo was frightening, there never seemed to be a Spurs player within 10 yards of Palmer, mid way through the first half I would have gladly sacrificed Maddison for Gray and told him to man mark Palmer to the point that it becomes 10 v 10 that's how important he was to them.
Going to the press to dictate terms on a new contract the day Levy was burying his mother is likely what severed the relationship Our form cratering in the backend of the season, in no small part due to Redknapp needlessly tinkering with his own system, likely had Levy considering alternatives - but Redknapp forced his hand with such a dick move
It was Redknapp's lack of tact and constant talking to the press that pushed me into joining the out brigade. It was his footballing credentials that he was employed for and they were never in doubt in my view. We lost a top manager.
The crowd literally singing "Gareth Bale, he plays on the left" while Redknapp persisted on playing him on the right while our form went off a cliff was what nudged me over When the crowd is creating chants to take the piss out of something the manager does, they're done
I'm just going to jump in here and offer my own opinion on this. It does not represent the views of anyone else and is not intended to. The Arsenal board didn't go to **** because someone was posting their opinions. It went to **** because he was insulting and abusing people, then deleting and banning when they responded. None of that had anything to do with his ban from this board, either. As for the mods being infrequent visitors and contributors, I strongly disagree. The former will lead to them being pointless and ineffective. The latter will mean that nobody wants to do it. This is an opinion. I welcome any disagreement.
You know as well as I do that the mod in question didn't wade straight in with the insults and bans. It started with a number of the same symptoms being described here. A mod posting their opinion repeatedly with an air of expectation that all other posters should accept that opinion, and getting very close to the fine line before ad hominem comments if said opinion isn't accepted. That was step one on the Arsenal board and it spiralled from there, and over the same topic too - the competence of their manager - until there was no one left. As I've said, most of my interactions with the mod in question are now on the PL board (specifically the War thread) where we clash over and over again but it is done with much more civility and respect since he lost his mod banner. So much so that I thoroughly enjoy reading his perspectives as it gives me food for thought without feeling like I'm being forced to accept his opinion.
People should accept the opinions of others. They don't have to agree with them. They're also free to disagree and offer their reasons as to why they disagree. Disagreement wasn't the issue. We could always ask the other parties involved, but he banned them! He behaves on the Prem board because he has to.
True. Although there was a hilarious episode last week when he was arbitrarily banned just because brb woke up in a bad mood.
