They didn't call Celtic a *****.

Thompsons didn't even claim Celtic employees did it.

They wanted Celtic to be liable for it and it has not been proven to be the case.

I don't think you understand what Celtic were taken to court for, what has happened since or who is saying what.

That's Thompsons Solicitors saying that not Celtic, as you claimed.

Celtic have not admitted liability.

There is no judgement being made, just the opinion of the opposing Council who are unlikely to say "we took the money and ran".

... the legal term is a settlement 'without prejudice' I.e not admitted or conceded ...

... and another way to look at it is that if the claimants and lawyers were absolutely cast iron certain of the outcome, why on earth would they settle for a great deal less than they would have got if it had gone to court, where they would have got costs, as well as compensation / damages, if their case was wholly proven?

 

Because they have already been waiting 50+ years, a lot of victims have already died before they got to see justice. The lawyers already commented that Celtic were making things “far more complex and lengthy”, Celtic have the resources to have made this go round in circles for years to come. A settlement out of court was always what Celtic wanted and they made sure it happened.
