he does make mistakes but we dont want you and your ilk discussing it , youve got enough of your own problems of your own havent you
Ferguson has never been beyond reproach - plenty of Utd fans believe that his transfer dealings and tactics at various points in his time at Utd have been poor. But I don't see any grounds for him being in serious trouble - we are second in the PL despite competing with two clubs who have practically unlimited resources, and we are the current PL champions. Perhaps if he was at a club like Chelsea where the expectations are unrealistic he would be in trouble. But I think the Utd owners, and most of the non glory hunting fans, have realistic expectations and recognise that we don't have some god given right to be the best and win everything. Personally, I expect us to challenge for the title every season and win a trophy in 80% of our seasons. We're still challenging for the title, and even if we don't win anything this season that will be the first time since 2005. And ironically enough 2005 was the last season everyone was writing off SAF as we finished 3rd and were told that the loss of Keane and the Glazer debt meant we'd be chasing Chelsea and Arsenal for the next decade. Remind me how that worked out again? Yes, we are having a bad season thus far, and yes we probably won't win the league this year. But given how well SAF has bounced back from similar bad seasons (1998, 2002 and 2005 being the worst ones), I don't see any reason to be reactionary and start demanding his head. Ultimately, we have the third highest amount of money in the PL to spend (after City and Chelsea), so even if we finish second this season we will have overachieved. If we finish lower than second, then I may reconsider my view
I think Manchester United fans have had a good innings under Fergie's regime as the trophy cabinet shows. Today is different though. There is a new kid on the block that will out-bid Fergie for the British elite. Will United fans be able to accept 2nd best after dominating for so long? More to the point, can Liverpool fans accept that they are no longer classed as being in the English top 5?
That's more like it thanks! I agree with the majority of what you said however I do think this time is a little different for the following reasons; Resources: City are buying players it seems just to stop other clubs aquiring them. Finances are just not an issue for them - only the FFP rules may aleiviate this. Timing : Ferguson is getting on (70 ish?) - does he have the time to reconstruct a team? (I want to be dribbling and watching Cash in the Attic when I'm 70 FFS!) Squad: I really think this is the poorest Utd squad I have seen. Ever. Does he really have cash to spend?
raped in europe weve reached 3 out of the last four finals, youve not won the english title for 20 years you need to refocus and get a life
anxious - United are the 1st team to reach the final and get knocked out in the group stages. If alarm bells were not ringing after the City humiliation, they should be now Deny - not wishful thinking at all - just realism mate. You cannot compete with the City spending power, Chelsea will spend big in January, Arsenal and Utd have better squad's Spurs have a better manager. Liverpool's aspirations are 6th place at best
I take your point to an extent but 10 years? Cmon! Aldershot could be in the CL in 10 years! btw I personally believe LFC will compete with the likes of Spurs, Arsenal & Chelsea, maybe not this year but considering our recent past we are on the up.
Denny - to do that you HAVE to be able to keep your best players. Gerrard aside, Liverpool seem to lose their players to rivals or Spain (Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Meireles). I will be very suprised if you can kept hold of Suarez for more than 2 seasons.
in 2008 we beat arsenal and barcelona along the way , in tne 2009 we beat inter milan , porto and arsenal along the way, last year we beat chelsea along the way granted shalke were a weak team apart from that i dont see us being lucky or getting favourable draws, but surely you should concentrate on winnng the title which you havent done for twenty long years , love from manchester 19
I do love the Liverpool fans who complain we get lucky draws, then when it's pointed out that in their first two European Cups they played Crusaders, Trabzonspor, Saint-Ãtienne, FC Zürich, Dynamo Dresden, Benfica, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Club Brugge they claim that it was somehow different in the EC. Different standards, what?
Barca finished 17 points off the top of Liga that season and United still parked the bus and were outplayed
It's really annoying, because had we made the CL this season, we would have got into the last 8, like we did last year.
This is where you went wrong Most English teams contend with mediocrity and relegation battles. Only the very few enjoy the spoils of trophies and european competitions. Good clubs like Bolton, Newcastle & Fulham etc would give everything to be in what United consider a worthless junior european cup competition. Such is the hubris that is Manchester United, from the manager down to programme sellers and plastic armchair fans who couldn't find Manchester on a map of England for thousand pounds. This my friends is why your hated so much, not for your fantastic haul of trophies or riches but for your pomposity & arrogance to concieve that such a thing could happen. Your red tinted glasses thickened with bravado blinded you so much you never saw it coming. That's why it hurts so much. Humble pie served in large portions will have you all showing a little more humility in no time. Happy Thursdays
