On current form I have us finishing 2nd bottom above Plymouth on goal difference, Oxford 1 point ahead, and Cardiff securing survival with a game to go.

No one has said that and your continued going back to this as if it's some point to hang your hat on is quite simply idiotic.

We were unbeaten in 4 prior to Saturday. It is a fact our form as of late has been ok if remarkably inconsistent

We’ve been inconsistent ever since Selles came in, which is why I don’t yet feel panic after Saturday’s loss.

It was a bad result but our form under him suggests it’s not unreasonable that we’ll bounce back fairly quickly. In fact in a weird way I’m more comfortable playing these mid table teams away than I was Luton at home.

Looking at our fixtures - there’s really only one I look at and think we might struggle and that’s Coventry. Every other game I look at as a possibility to win - especially now Pedro is back.

There's a lot of talk about our form being inconsistent. Isn't that just another way of saying average or mid-table? It's that inconsistency that has got us up the table a bit. Being consistent was what got us down there in the first place.

I think the “inconsistent” comments are that we never seem to string wins together. It’s always a win here and there.

You could be inconsistent by winning 3 and losing 3 which I think is neither here nor there. We were unbeaten in 4 prior to Saturday getting 8 points out of a tough run of fixtures the worst thing that could’ve happened with that momentum building was an international break

Constantly referencing form tables and consistency levels neglects to mention some rather pertinent points. We are currently only 3 points above the team in 22nd place. After Wednesday we could be 1 point and 1 place off the bottom 3, with all teams having played the same amount of games and each having 7 games left.

That's the only information that's relevant. Form and consistency won't be of any use to us if we end up with one of the 3 lowest points totals at the end of the season. The way a league works is actually rather simple. It takes account of wins, draws and losses (and occasionally goals scored and conceded) and that's it. Nothing else.

I'm grateful for you explaining what we should be talking about. I was going to point out that with the ppg that Selles has managed so far (1.3) we'll finish on 50 points which will be enough, but I won't now since it's not pertinent. Of course we might not get that points total, we might get less, we might get more. Also, the teams below us might not get enough points to overhaul us. Hard to know isn't it? If only we had some pertinent information, like a ppg to work with.

I understand the league table doesn’t lie but it does remain we can only beat what’s in front of us and by and large we have been doing that.

The Wendies had this exact problem last year in that their horrendous start hamstrung their decent finish (I believe if the season started when Rohl joined them they would’ve been in or near playoffs). Like then it’s now really unfortunate for us that teams around are finding their form so any set back like yesterday really looks catastrophic in a vacuum.

Yes but it’s not long ago we were in the bottom 3.

We do tend to get this after we have a setback. Yes Saturday was a really bad result - but the only fact is that if Selles continues as he has we’ll probably stay up. Actually that’s not even really a fact is it but it probably would be the case.

Of course we might not and we might go down - both things are possible. But I do think it’s unfair to the team to ignore the form we’ve been in.

We all know it could come crashing down around our ears but on the whole we’ve done ok to put ourselves in the position where it’s in our hands with 7 games to go. Everyone has to keep their heads.

We’ve not beaten Stoke, Cardiff and Luton though, which is concerning. We’ve dropped 9 points out of 9 against relegation rivals. People were saying that we had one of the easier run-ins out of the bottom six but since we struggle against other bottom six clubs, I’m not super confident.

We’ve had enough chances to put a solid run of form together and pull away from the bottom three like Portsmouth have done and we’ve just not done it.

Yeah whilst what I’ve said is right I do agree with you. It’s frustrating we can’t seem to hack it on the teams around us. Was hoping the Plymouth and Oxford games were a sign of the tide turning. Have to hope Luton was just a bad matchup for us.

This is the third time you've brought it up looking for a reaction that I've seen, let alone I'm sure others I haven't seen. Either you're that bored in your life that you're repeating something you know is false for no reason which is rather sad or you think it's true and are now pretending you're sad to avoid embarrassment. Not sure which is sadder.

We might not have pulled away, but considering we climbed our way off the bottom of the table and the teams below us (except Cardiff) are in the best form of their seasons, we’ve not bottled it and we’ve done enough to make sure we don’t slip back into the drop zone. In that sense, I think we’ve looked more resilient than typical city, even with some poor results scattered throughout.

If I was a fan of one of the teams below us I’d be incredibly frustrated and wondering what else we’d have to do to get out of it. They’ve already all gone up a gear, beaten teams around the bottom, and are still stuck in the drop zone. I mean Derby have won three in a row and are still in the bottom three. At some point that has to make you feel pretty demoralised, especially if they lose tomorrow.
