If we all needed concrete facts and figures this place would be boring as hell! I believe we'd sell out 75-80k based on the numbers and demand currently. I also believe it's better to invest in SJP for an extra 8k seats than build a new stadium to increase capacity by 13k - effectively 5,000 seats (most of which I would bet would be corporate btw) but I won't be making the decisions and, again, won't be losing sleep over them.
Whilst I too am an old fart and think too much history is dismissed, if we want to keep up it's not just about seats. It's about a shiny new thing to sponsor, a better facility to host different events, a statement piece of architecture to say "we've arrived".
65k is all anyone's focused on, but it's about the sponsorships they can get, events they can get, and also the quality of the stadium being built. I just think everyone has a massive hard on for having a massive stadium for bragging rights, but the truth is Man United are going 100k because they have a massive amount of fans worldwide, and Newcastle simply don't yet.
Plus we have to consider what the football future looks like. In time we may not be able to fill 65k if the 3pm blackout disappears, for example. 100k is madness - and even for Man U, it seems like an incredibly daft idea.
That's not what was being discussed though - we were talking about could we fill a larger stadium. Some people said no, my answer is yes I believe we could sell it out up to 80k based on the numbers currently. We have 32k season ticket holders already and 100k (minimum) members already - before we'd won a trophy - why don't you think we could sell out 75-80k? Would a sponsor not pay more for 10,000-15,000 more bums on seats??
These figures are simply not enough information to make such a claim. I'm not even saying you're wrong, but really I don't understand why people think they have a better answer than the club.
the thing is we have a large portion of family area seats but what happens to the parents when the kids get too old to be in there, The kids go to the young adult section and the young adults when too old go to what ever seat is available but the parents are left scrambling around trying to get a seat I'm positive we could could easily fill a 75k stadium #Build a team and they will come
The whole family section, young person section is a joke now in my opinion, it’s way too big a section for what’s required and not fit for purpose
This stadium stuff has become a bit tedious at this point. I mean, don't get me wrong it's fantastic news, but when it's actually news. The story has been the same for over 3 years.
I agree. They just need to get the details out there now. The problem is our fans - they need and want everything now and the journalists know that the fans are easy click bait.
If they said 90 thousand there's still going to be some saying we need 120 thousand. I'm finding it all increasingly irritating and most of us will be starting to see retirement on the horizon before it's ever built.
