Aye mate, I can’t name anybody who is overwhelmingly positive but i can name quite a few who are overwhelmingly negative.
Good post though even if I don’t agree with it <ok>

maybe overwhelmingly positive isn’t the right way of putting it. But what I’ve observed often is people not even being willing to discuss mistakes / problems, and anyone who does being dismissed as moaning.

I get it though. What’s incredibly annoying especially in match threads is whenever we concede a goal you get the same posters arrive out of nowhere exaggerating how bad everything is, how bad the defending was, how bad the tactics are etc, how they saw it coming and nobody believed them and how wrong everyone else is and how right they are and how bad our manager is and how much better they know. It’s ****ing tedious and annoying. So I do get why it’s met with resistance.

I just find that sometimes it’s then hard to have a sensible debate about stuff because you’ve got arguments happening between extremely negative people and others who are understandably standing up to them. Occasionally it even seems people are enjoying the arguing and wanting to catch the other out. Then it even gets personal and to the point I feel like there’s no point posting anything because no matter what I post, somebody is going to reply to me trying to win an argument I’ve not even wanted to participate in :D

anyway I’m in a venting reflective mood. My participation in threads has been much down in recent 4-6 weeks and it’s mostly down to this. That and the fact that now I’m off twitter, Sunderland doesn’t feel like life and death to me anymore and I’m able to actually think about other things at the weekend for once :D

I'm not even looking at what they've liked. If it's just some congratulatory post I'm not bothered at all. If it's them being classless and derogatory about Sunderland then I'd like to think someone has had a word with them.

On repercussions, I don't see the need. We won't sign Samed unless he has the best 7 to 10 games anyone has ever had so he's away anyway.

Seelt is a promising player who I'd like to see get a run without injury. If this is a one off misjudgement and there's no underlying attitude problems, it's best he's told and we move on.

Non issue for me.... Two young players with zero invested in the SAFC v NUFC rivalry, just acknowledging that players from another nearby club have won a cup.... If, as fans, we are going to get upset with any of our players for that, we really have sunk to a new low.

Hands up if you have mag work colleagues. (Me, raising hand)
Hands up if you have mag mates. (Again, me)
Hands up if you work or worked in Newcastle. (Again, me raising hand)
Hands up if you have mag relatives or neighbours. (Me again)
Much as I hate the mags, I have congratulated a couple of them that I work with for winning it, as they are friends. Why would I want to make myself look petty to them by not? I can ignore the celebrations, didn't watch that match (I rarely watch matches involving that lot any way) and generally get on with my life without them bothering me. But just because they're mags doesn't mean I'm going going to fall out with friends and cut people off because of a football result.

Taking the whole human element into consideration, it's possible that Seelt and Samed know and are friendly with some mag players. Seelt and Botman are only a couple of years apart in age, it's possible they came across each other as young players in Holland, or have gotten to know each other since coming to England, Botman helping a younger Dutch lad settle in. If it is a case, then so what? Are they not allowed to be friends with rival players? Football is a short career and burning bridges with other clubs or players will only make it shorter.

And, in another way, I'd much rather our players showed a bit of class, such as congratulating our rivals being successful rather than being classless pricks like Guimares or Trippier taking the piss out of us to keep in with their fans.

The only people in this I'm angry with are the ones blowing this storm in a tea cup out of proportion just to rile up fans for their own agenda or amusement.

To be honest there's nothing some people won't get upset about ...

... the merchandising, the SCs, the Founders, signings, financial arrangements, stadium upgrades, literally anything and everything.

And there's no balance, it's always skulduggery, a racket, milking the fans, an embarrassment, a joke, a disgrace or whatever ...

... and always 'loads of people I know won't renew and won't be back' as if the club is a total basket case.

These are two players idly flicking through social media ... not wearing anti-Sunderland T-shirts and having their picture taken.

As you say some fans are showing themselves up much more than the two players.

I’m surrounded by mags, more so than ever the last couple of weeks. Not going to pretend it hasn’t been hard and I hate the sight of that horrible badge but I know some nice people who unfortunately support them in the same way I support Sunderland. As I keep saying, I prefer the forward thinking ethical approach rather than the one that has no class but you can’t begrudge them celebrating a trophy. Well you can and I do but it’s just bitterness and life has to go on.

Absolutely spot on. I'm sure everyone thinks they're the voice of reason but my posts in match day threads are actually class. <laugh> I generally have a positive outlook and I'll get over a defeat pretty quickly but I'm also happy to discuss a problem if I think there is one.

There are a handful of negative supporters who always go over the top when things are not going well (The O'Nien and Neil haters more than most). But there's a counter group to that who shout down those people as soon as they enter the thread (which I understand to an extent).

The problem you have is that those who like to discuss the good and bad can get caught in the cross-fire for having an opinion that someone sees as "too negative".

That's a fair and balanced post tbh.

The worst are those who immediately post 'game over' when we concede ...

... thankfully the players don't give up so easily.

Just realised I didn't actually reply to the purpose of the thread.

Have a word, educate and move on. The bigger deal you make of it, the more ammunition you give others.

Professional footballers don't care about the clubs they play for as much as the fans. It doesn't mean they don't give everything when they're on the pitch. No need to turn it into something it's not in my opinion.

This thread is fair enough for me but totally agree with your overall point. There's too much criticism and it's gradually killing the forum. If we got promoted it'd be happy days for a few weeks then the goalposts would shift and people would start again with the critique. Can't win with some.

I have mags on both sides of my family and with the in-laws. I've spent 75% of my life living in North Tyneside. When I was a kid I hated the mags. When I got older I disliked them. Now I don't give a **** about them.
Did I want them to win the cup? Absolutely not
Was I bothered that they did? Nope

For me, we are worlds apart these days, and they are just another PL franchise, being run by the Govt of a foreign nation. Their supporters try to pretend that it doesn't matter, but it does and they know it does.
Let them get on with it, they don't register on my radar any more.

As for a couple of young foreign lads "liking" a social media post? I mean, what level of wet wipe seeks out this information? You must have to spend hours trawling social media to unearth random "likes" and "follows" so there is a massive red flag there, but does it matter? Not a ****ing chance it does. People desperate to be annoyed, or criticise the club in some way - no doubt it will be Speakman's fault for "failing" to sign world-class players born in an SR postcode.

I believe if you follow someone, Seelt and Samed, then go on an article, it shows you who you are following (first) who have liked it...

    This thread stinks .
A member much loved member of my family is photographed in the celebrations so what, and I have great hopes for both players mentioned in this snidey article , that is basically an attack on SAFC not the players in question.
