PARIS — Marine Le Pen and eight other former MEPs from the French far right were found guilty Monday of embezzling European Parliament funds.

Le Pen banned from running for office. Updates on BBC News.

What a surprise. As soon as someone runs against the agenda they fabricate charges against them.

Didn’t work for Trump, hopefully it doesn’t work here

Found guilty of fraudulent use of funds and they being sentenced in line with laws passed in the French parliament. She did the crime, she'll do the time. Hysterical claims of fabricated charges are disregarded.

Pakistan is a part of the commonwealth and is also one of the nations most severely impacted by MAN MADE climate change. If we can invest a little money there to help them deal with climate change, fewer people will come here.

Have you thought it through?

So you simultaneously want to waste our money on climate change crap

whilst encouraging them to build another airport - which is arguably the biggest pollutant it’s possible to build.

Do you think anything through, ever?

"Found guilty of fraudulent use of funds" Good. Now only the other 99% of politicians to go!

Funny how she’s banned from running for office. How incredibly convenient

Meanwhile Christine Lagarde, convicted of fraud, ended up being promoted to President of the European Central Bank, because she wasn't a threat to the Establishment.

So which is it? Climate Change is crap, or airports are pollutants? Surely, pollutants are just man-made, so have no impact on climate change

Not relevant to the Le Pen case
Fraud screamed the sensational headlines but actually In 2016, for an offence dating from 2008, French judges found Ms Lagarde guilty of negligence for failing to challenge the state arbitration pay out to the friend of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The 60-year-old, following a week-long trial in Paris, was not given any sentence and wasn't punished.
Even the trial’s chief prosecutor Jean-Claude Marin said the accusation was “very weak” and warned of confusion between “criminal negligence” and a “bad political decision”.
Think it through you know you should.

The full verdict is in and Marine Le Pen has been sentenced to five years of ineligibility, with immediate effect – effectively ruling her out of the 2027 presidential race.

The judges also gave Le Pen a four-year prison sentence – of which two years are a suspended sentence – and a 100,000 euro fine.

She is almost certain to appeal, and the prison penalty and fine would not be applied until her appeals are exhausted.
