Sheff Utd are top of the league do you think they’re good enough for the PL? All about what business you do when you go up imo. No squad from this division will ever be able to hold their own in the PL again without spending big money. As I’ve said before, Wolves are 17th and they absolutely twat any team in this division.

The difference is ridiculous. What would a team have to spend to have a chance, obviously depends how well it is spent but £250 million minimum?

Nottingham Forest fans woukd disagree. They scraped Promotion a few years ago via the playoffs and are now close to playing in the Champions league

Any player could leave IF a PL team comes in for them. I don't think we'll lose more than 2 or 3 players. Talk of a fire sale is over the top in my opinion

There will be 3 or 4 out, and then KLD will have to decide if it's spend or bust, in bust I mean, we have to decide if we go for it next season under RLB.

£250m is unnecessary. With good quality recruitment and a bit of luck (unearth 1 or 2 hidden gems from abroad), I reckon you could compete with a £50m~ spend.

We're in quite a good position because of the youth of our squad, you would like to think the younger players who are already upper Champiosnhip level (evidently) would maybe push on to be PL standard with another year of experience under their belts. I'm talking about the likes of Jobe, Hume, Neil, Rigg, Mayenda, Mundle. They might not all be good enough to be regular starters immediately, but should be fine as squad players and their development will only be accelerated with minutes in the PL.

Plus, if we go up, we get ELF by default, who is already good enough for the Prem imo.

Not a cat in hells chance we could compete with just £50m spent mind even if we held onto everyone we currently have. Ipswich were considerably better than we are this season and have spent about £130m.. unless we somehow manage to sign Van Dijk, Rice, Palmer and Mbuemo for £50m :emoticon-0102-bigsm

No idea to be honest but it won’t be cheap. Nothing to say a lot of these lads couldn’t step up but having to step up together will be a big ask. My own opinion is that if you took Jobe and put him in a team like say Fulham, he’d thrive because he’s surrounded by PL experience. If his first season in the PL is in a midfield 3 with Rigg and Neil they’ll get absolutely ran off the pitch week in week out and his confidence will be shot to bits. You don’t get the time on the ball you get in the championship and the physicality in the PL is next level, we saw that last season we got absolutely bullied in the cup. I’d be sacrificing at least one of Jobe or Rigg to sign quality experience in there. It’s a tough one because we’ve got potential all over the pitch but they need the right experience around them to perform when we go up.

This is my worry for next season if we don't go up..... I actually do fear 4 players will depart, maybe even 5. Jobe, Rigg, Neil, Cirkin and Watson... Fingers crossed that doesn't happen, but its a distinct possibility

There is no one size fits all approach to player development. Some, like Rigg and Rooney for example, that thrive on playing mens football at a young age. Then there are others, like Paul Scholes, who take a couple of years longer.

Aleksic is 19 but has made a move that is huge for a young man. He has moved country and culture. Regis has been quite clear on the patience needed with him to connect with teammates and language is a challenge. Lets not assume it his football development that is being stunted, when his development as a young man in a new country may be more important for his long term success.

I honestly think folk are too bent out of shape on subs being made. Regis is clearly a coach who relies on connections and partnerships in the pitch. He talks about the triangles all the time. When a game is tight disrupting those can be a negative not a positive. Aleksic has looked a prospect when he has made an appearance, but he has hardly kicked doors down either. I dont see many instances where he is going to have to play eithet, until next season when he may well be Jobes replacement. This season Browne and Le Fee are both ahead of him for next spot in the midfield.

Regis is here partly because of his reputation for developing talent. Throwing some players in for 10 mins here and there is an anti-development pattern at a stage in their career. Maybe he thinks that with Aleksic. I look forward to seeing him when he is ready, that looks likely to be next season realistically.

Good points mate. I just feel that it can be useful to bring some fresh legs on and allow our midfield 3 a slight breather from time to time.

I think if we are 2 up we would see that more. I wouldnt be against it either, just trying to see it from Regis perspective.

I think the club buy young players with a lot of patience in mind. Abdullahi and Aleksic this season maybe were always bought with next season in mind. I suspect Mayenda was that same last season. It is good we have a coach like Regis who is prepared to integrate players I think. I have been surprised Harrison Jones has been a bit more trusted than Aleksic, but if he is earning it in training then good stuff. He looks a tidy player and could be another we enjoy next season.

Pleased with yesterday’s win. Just consolidate what we have and secure place where we get the away game first in the play offs. The penalty shootout will always be a lottery whether you score everyone during the season or miss everyone. The main thing for me is to get as many of the squad fit for the playoffs as possible. Exciting times ahead HTL!!!

Made some good points mate but re Aleksic he’s a £3m signing and a full international. That’s not cheap at this level he should be more than capable of seeing games out. He looks decent when he plays too. As Prehab mentioned even just for game management to give the other legs a rest. I’m sure I’d rather have Samed and Aleksic closing people down full of energy last 15 minutes when we have a 1-0 lead than Jobe and Rigg dead on their feet. We’ve defo dropped points this season because of our refusal to make subs imo, and even away from the specifics of who comes on it wastes a minute or so making the sub. Absolutely under the cosh away at Leeds and we only use 2 sub windows with Mepham and Browne amongst others on the bench. RLB deserves credit for this season he’s been top drawer but the lack of subs is worrying. Players don’t run on batteries.

You're 'quoting' people who don't actually exist.

Not one person has said that.

Everyone that I've seen mention Aleksic, has said that they'd like to see him play.

In my case it's not that I'm 'not fussed' ...

... it's just that I know that demanding he gets minutes on a chat forum doesn't make it happen or even make it more likely.

None of us, you included, know why he's not playing, but RLB knows exactly why.

I'd like Aouchiche to be a big part of our squad, and he's done more than Aleksic, but he isn't so I don't mention him ...

... what's the point on a match thread that he's not involved with?

Teams promoted from the championship are up against it because they have to bridge the gap. When you look at the teams that stay up in the premier league, 1st to 17th, yes certain players are more equipped for 'top 4' sides, but essentially they're all on an even playing field when it comes to attracting talent to their sides because of the pull and finances of the premier league and each season is basically a fresh start. The quality dispersed throughout the league is actually insane.

Saying that, whilst a promoted side, such as Sunderland has to bridge a gap, it's definitely possible.

I believe Le Fee is mandatory and approx 20m if promoted? I'd argue that that quality of player, at that fee eclipses any of Ipswich's summer signings at the start of the season and that's the difference.

5 players, at 20m a piece at that calibre and we would instantly be the best promoted side, obviously before judging the singings of others.

Anyway it's all about going up, strengthening and pocketing cash and more that likely going down to go back up and again and closing the gap incrementally
