So we shouldn’t be as emotionally involved about the thousands of women and childrens deaths if it’s a fair fight between the lads?
They have, but you also have to remember that Netanyahu himself helped to prop up Hamas, because he saw them as the necessary divide to prevent Fatah uniting the West Bank and Gaza and moving towards establishing a Palestinian state. I still think Fatah need to shuffle Abbas out to some retirement home, but I think Fatah's plea is genuine. Indeed, Hamas have said that they would relinquish control of the strip after this conflict, and as much as you and others have said you don't trust them, they have and are fully engaged with mediators on the ceasefire that Israel have now broken and there was a plan in place to negotiate a Palestinian governed territory without Hamas at Phase 3 of the ceasefire. Hamas have also said that they would demilitarise their organisation if a Palestinian statehood was achieved. All the while there is Israeli aggression, and moves towards trying to thwart a Palestinian state, there will be an armed Hamas.
Think it’s a bit naive to take their word for it. The name might change but the people remain. Appeasement just won’t work. It might for a bit but they’ll keep pushing no matter what they get.
Thing is, Israel won't even give it a chance. This idea that they can destroy Hamas is misguided, as others will just take their place and take up the fight. This will be the pattern ad infinitum until a Palestinian state is established.
The pattern won’t be broken by a state being established. Fosse’s Kumbaya fantasy sadly won’t hold. I’m not saying there’s a good answer- just bad and worse answers.
Surely it has to be a lot better than what everybody has now ? And fundamentally, despite Israel's repeated attempts to thwart a Palestinian State, the Palestinian people have the right to self determination. I'm not saying it would be peace and love on day 1, it would probably take a generation to begin to quell the trauma, but it's the only direction that will eventually lead to some kind of ability for Israel and Palestine to live with one another.
Maybe but then a generation is a long time when you’re holding the bulk of the cards and the risk is what it is. They’ve had their chance and ****ed it which sucks for those who would have benefitted but if the Arab states want nothing to do with them I don’t really see what Israel has to gain by playing nicely when they’ll still have the threats from Palestine, Lebanon and others no matter how much ground they cede.
Israel still has legitimate security concerns even with the establishment of a Palestinian state, but let's face it, they are well armed enough and diplomatically backed by the west to deal with it. An armed Hamas (which let's not forget was encouraged and supported by Israel to drive a wedge between Fatah and thwart a Palestinian state) would not have anywhere near the ability, resources, backing and motive to operate as it does in a Palestinian state. Indeed they have admitted that they would not even exist as a armed group in a Palestinian state. Yes there are people who want to wipe Israel off the map and yes there are people who want to wipe Palestine off the map and that is symptom of the conflict. It's something that you have to try and move on from, however long it takes. Because with no resolution to the conflict it will just breed generation after generation of people who hate each other. And yes, Israel have more to lose in this scenario. But that's what happens when you try and take everything for yourself at the expense of your neighbours. You then have more to give up.
Not the point - we can be as horrified about the deaths of women and children wherever that happens in the world, and its good that your 'equivalence' suggests you are just as horrified by the civilian slaughter in Gaza as most on here - but we cannot bring the factions in an internal strife 'to book' - Israel on the other hand is a memember of the UN and has also ratified the Geneva convention and therefore as 'a country' can (and should) be held accountable for its actions under the auspices of such ...
If by Kumbaya you mean 'fair and equitable' good call - that would, of course, include cessation of all illegal land grabbing and occupation ... and all parties adhering to that solution
Of course it would be ... but the bittered and entrenched (on both sides) will fight it, particularly those that have experienced family loss - and that is understanable ... but contrary to what some numpties will try and tell you, this isn't 'different' to evey other conflict that has ever happened in the world - greed, power and religion have been factors behind just about every war and the associated attempts at ethnic cleansing that have occurred in history... What is needed is strong leadership on both sides to find a workable solution - with the support of the UN.

Very busy week after hostilities resumed. Fosse made the rookie error of being drawn into a handbags at noon with Bwood, all insults very little substance. Piskie for sheer persistence and consistently posting inconsistent opinions leapfrogs him to take top spot. Greta thanks you. Impressive revival from Spurlock who was starting to flag a bit due to not eating every day, but a timely Hitler video reminded us why even though form is temporary, class is permanent. Brb plummets down the table after posting a gif of an Israeli flag. Absolutely unacceptable. Only the Palestinian and rainbow ones are acceptable on this forum. Solidly pro Israel week by Saf including blaming Hamas for the collapse of the ceasefire. He joins me and Bwood in the Nazi Supremacist zone. Lord Rothschild thanks you. Welshie also continues to make the mistake of expressing very balanced and fair opinions. Totally uncalled for. This is not606, not Athens. Sucky, who hasn't been seen or heard from since Liverpool lost to the Toon, continues to climb the table in absentia. If he isn't careful he'll be changing his name to Ahmed moving to Bradford soon. All to play for. Good luck.
... and a real depressing **** hole if everyone hated, and preferred hating, to attempting to find an fair an equitable means for living together, like you.
No it's not - but a better world is, provided those with a conscience and a belief in the sanctity of all human life, rather than just for their own ethnicity or religion, have the will to try ... as it has always been. That's why the world has come through so many wars ... wars didn't start with the Arab/Israeli conflict ...
I’ll think about it when the likes of you don’t make excuses for attacks on mine while pretending to be virtuous and better. I still won’t but I will think about it. Probably.
