    Prey

    7.5/10

Another Predator movie but set in the past with a native American bird as the main character. Good action shots (sorry, no tits arse or minge) and they tried to make it look authentic but it missed the mark a bit on historical accuracy.

    1) The tribe were Comanches and as such would have been based in the southern plains of the States around Texas, Kansas & Oklahoma yet the film is set in the northern great plains. This may have been where the film wanted to be set but the topography was all out of whack being filmed in Canada with feck off big mountains everywhere. If they wanted tribes that lived in the Rockies they would have been better off with Crow, Blackfeet, Mandans etc as met by the Lewis & Clark expedition or they could have just said they were Canadian First Nations and been Cree, Kootenay etc.

    2) I was waiting for the inevitable "space monster comes to Earth to hunt but the real bad guy is Whitey" and sure enough a bunch of honkies turn up. Another historical mistake was making them French fur trappers who slaughtered a herd of buffalo for their skins. The French were certainly fur traders and hunters but in the 1700s they would have been there for beaver and mink and not buffalo as at the time it was the beaver they were after for felt to be made into hats. Buffalo hides had no real value at the time and the wholesale slaughter of the buffalo didn't get going until a 100 years after the film was set. The film's producers were playing on the image of the near extinction of the buffalo to make a point.

    3) Predator weapons. 300 years ago they still had the technology and wherewithal to travel across interstellar distances but only turned up with a big stick? There were some laser guided metal arrows and that funny arm band with the alien count down numbers but it was deliberately meant to have a retro vibe. The idea that they had space ships but only invented rocket launchers centuries later was suspect.

Still, it was a jolly good romp and you know that being a Predator film an advanced alien species is going to be defeated by primitive weapons just like in the others. I don't know why they bother coming to Earth, they always seem to get their arse handed to them in one shape or form. They also missed a trick by not having one of the Indian warriors cut his chest as a challenge like Billy in the first one, that would have been an excellent nod to the original.

Haha highbrow and subtle? I had to switch it off. Most of the characters are young teenagers...ah now it is making sense why you liked it!

Yes, the film is called that because he was called that when he was a kid 20 years ago. In the film he is 32 yet most of the characters are still young teenagers, ya big, ragin' *****!

Flight Risk. Not bad, but you kind of knew what would happen and how it would end. Miles better than The Kid Detective.

Just watched The Wanderers for the first time. It came out the same year as The Warriors did and I read that it is a better film than The Warriors...it isn't.

A decent enough soundtrack though and I didn't realise that, "Don't **** with the Baldies" and "Don't **** with the Wongs" came from that film. Also, the old, let's see who can do the softest punch trick is also in the film.

It is a 1979 film, I watched it on IPTV. Watchable, but not great by any stretch of the imagination, I was curious after reading yesterday that people were saying it was better than The Warriors.
