It was never used as a justification to resume hostilities.

The only thing it and the parades did was strengthen the far right's hand in treating Phase Two with a lot of hesitancy and caution.

I personally don't find that response unreasonable at all. Let's not forget that Phase Two would have seen the full withdrawal of the IDF from key strategic areas of Gaza, trusting that what filled the subsequent vacuum wouldn't still be hell bent on destruction and genocide. The parades demonstrated amply that Hamas is still hell bent on both of those.

Let's get this very clear because you and Pinkie keep repeating this mistake:

The resumption of conflict was caused by Hamas rejecting Israel's offer to extend Phase One to the other side of the Ramadan and Passover festivals, which would have taken the ceasefire up to mid April at least.

On this point you are entirely wrong

The resumption of conflict was caused by Netanyahu seeking any reason he could to return to war. Hamas complied with the agreements in Phase one, at which point phase two should have begun. Israel rejected Phase two and tried to change the terms of the agreement.

Stop trying to absolve Israeli responsibility for this.

You know that I broadly agree about Netanyahu.

But you must still answer the question: why did Hamas reject the offer to extend Phase One for 6 weeks?

Because phase one was completed and phase two should have started.

Israel tried to change the terms of the agreement. Can you imagine the reaction if Hamas had changed the terms and come up with an 'alternative extension' that suited their own motives.

What do you think the Israeli reaction would have been ?

If Netanyahu wanted to return to war, he should have done so as soon as a random woman's body was returned instead of Shiri Bibas. The level of fury across Israel at that point was unlike anything since Oct 8th.

But he didn't, he offered to extend Phase One for six weeks in light of the fact that Israel was not happy with Phase Two.

Why did Hamas reject that offer? Did it think the alternative would be better? Is it really that stupid? Or maybe it just doesn't care and is as happy with conflict as he is?

Which is exactly what he wanted to do.

He even wanted to do that before, during the earlier hostage releases

He didn't even want a ceasefire. He was strong armed into it by Trump.

Do you not see this ?

    Fixed.

We can't discuss this if you keep ignoring the actual Resolution text. I've clarified this maybe a dozen times but it hasn't sunk in.

PHASE TWO WAS NEVER BINDING IT WAS ONLY A RECOMMENDATION TO BE FINALISED AND RATIFIED BY NEGOTIATIONS HELD AT THE END OF PHASE ONE.

Yes and it should have started at the end of phase one, as all of the terms of that phase were met.

A point that you seem to be repeatedly missing.

    Of course I do.

And I also see how Hamas ****ed an opportunity handed to them on a silver platter by Trump to secure a ceasefire, allow the return of civilians and the start of a rebuilding project.

Hamas is in no position to spurn an opportunity as unlikely as this. If a man as nuts as Netanyahu offers a six week extension of a ceasefire, you take it. Unless of course you don't care one iota about the civilians that extension would protect, which Hamas doesn't.

I need reading glasses now so I’ll take that as a sign that I can eat Greggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner and get my application in asap.

Nothing about that hostage pantomime was good, but all of the hostages were released in phase one.

I think the broader point here, which I believe you understand, is that Netanyahu was always going to find a way to resume his dirty war.

Anyway I’m up here atm. This is a 4000 year old burial chamber

It pre dates Christianity, Judaism and Islam by at least 2000 years.

Standing here is a reminder of the brief time we spend as individuals on this planet and it puts into perspective the theological and ideological battles that see so much blood split and innocent lives lost.

I just wish people could put their differences aside and learn to live in peace with each other. (By that I mean leaders, because most folk just want to live their lives in peace, raise their families and get on with their neighbours)
