Don't be daft - 120 intense minutes and pens 5 days before a cup final is draining. Not an excuse at all - Newcastle well deserved their win, and if anything the scoreline flattered us. That said, Liverpool have looked knackered for over a month.

Yes it’s draining. But five days is ample recovery time. Therefore, it’s not a factor.

It's not just that game, it's the accumulation of games over the past few weeks, which Newcastle have not had. That finals PSG game, plus the extra time and pens is the icing on the cake.

Look, you deserved to win, but to say that game is irrelevant is just plain wrong.

    Course it is.

This is not some ****ty Southampton side we played.

We played a really fast, really strong team twice and got ran off the park in france and frankly in anfield.

If you add in szoboszlai for example lasted all of 45mins v ****ty Southampton (sorry but you have played ****ty lads) can couldn't move.

5 days recovery is not fixing that.

Look it's not like they've got much experience of playing twice a week, especially not against the champions of another country.

    Let them have there moment.

And before anyone flags up great teams that won doubles and trebles (including past Liverpool sides), this Liverpool team is not a great side. Not yet, anyway.

It's not as good as the 2019 side that got 97 points but still never won the league, ditto the 2022 side that got 93 points. Ironic that this side is probably going to win the league with under 90 points, but, perhaps the LC final on a better day against a less good side aside, it'd be the poorest Liverpool side to win a double if it did a double, let alone trebles and quadruples.

We're currently on for 92 points, not 82.

But no, we don't know what will happen after this season. But I'll remain optimistic till the window's shut and we can judge them on actual signings rather than speculation and rumours.

    Ahem.

Broken old crocks and bang average Germans?

Too right our current side wipes the floor with houlliers cup teams.

BTW. You cannot beat pace. In 2001 owen and Heskey finished fowlers lfc career.

We are on for what i say we are on for ;)

If we hit 80+ we win this. 4 more wins. Throw in a few draws.

    Absolutely.

    That side in full

    Dudek (compared to alisson lol)
    Carragher (Compared to trent)
    Henchoz (compared to konate)
    Hyypia (compared to vvd)
    Riise (compared to robertson)

I'm up to 5 there and id not take one of those over today's side even if hyypia amd riise are favourites.

    Hamann (compared to gravenberch)
    Macallister/heskey (compared to macallister lol)
    Gerrard (compared to szoboszlai)

Houiller didn't play the same formation as slot. So to find 3 to compare is a little tough but I'd only take Gerrard there.

    Smicer (Compared to salah????
    Berger (compared to gakpo???)
    Owen (compared to jota)

Again as the formation falls i would always take 2001 Owen but the others. Omg.

Notable subs: Murphy, litmanen, anelka, fowler, vignal, barmby. I wouldn't be screaming for any of those too much either.

2001 team made great memories but let's not make it into a word beater squad. It had two/three legendary careers in owne, Gerrard and carragher and a legend at the back in hyypia. The rest? Hmmm.

We have a very good 11 today. Well maybe 10 given striker is an issue but it's basically still tops.

    Fowler compared to Gakpo, surely?

And Heskey in midfield? Did you watch noughties football?

Fowlers legs were gone in 2001. Plus he wouldn't play on the left.

As I said the formations were not the same. You have to put heskey as a forward in a 2 somewhere verses a 4231 and it can't be against wingers

I felt Gerrard would be the closest comparison to szoboszlai as a player but you can compare Gerrard ti macallister if you want as at that time he was in a 2 with hamann.

I defy anyone to take more than Owen and Gerrard out if the 2001 team over our current team.

And no you cant swap hyypia to rcb etc

My arse. It's full of false comparisons! The back four and goalie - ok. But only MacAllister gets into the 2001 midfield (over the other McAllister), and only Salah makes the front three with Owen and Fowler.

Edit - yes, on balance, and considering Ibou's injuries, I WOULD put Hyypia in front of Konate.

    No it's not.

It's a 442 v a 4231 you have to compromise somewhere with a striker partnership and heskey isn't as good as Owen so he gets shoved out.

I've put player for player in position

    Hamann was not that good
Riise as much as I liked him couldn't be picked over Robertson even now.

There's nobody who could pick anyone but the current wingers. It's be madness.

But as I said hyypia played left side cb. So does vvd so moving players about to suit yourself is your choice but neither vvd nor hyypia ever play rcb.

As I said Owen amd Gerrard and the picks.

I'd have alexis macallister over either hamann or garry mac and day and certainly over Murphy.

Gravenberch has faded but he is a young talent.

If I was debating 2007 to 2009 team that won nothing I'd be plundering that midfield massively but still sticking with our current defence.but not the 2001 team.
