Nah. Away with it but highlights the poor trial team and the execution of the witnesses and evidence to put enough doubt into the jury

Anyone watched Toxic Town on Netflix. Just finished watching it, was a good watch but I get a feeling as typical.in these things there is massive amounts of fabrication. Makes a drama interesting but takes away from the real story when they add crucial events that didn't happen!

Just watched Adolescence on Netflix in one sitting. Thought it was excellent, Stephen Graham as good as always also had Erin Doherty who I hadn't seen in anything until A Thousand Blows also with Stephen Graham in and thought she was good in both.

It's a very different look at crime drama site the last two episodes in particular were excellent. Each episode is also a continuous shot with no cuts. Highly recommended!

I honestly wouldn’t know. I’ve started watching it this week as I used to be a cop in Northamptonshire and had a few mates who worked in Corby. I’m watching purely because of a nostalgic interest in where I used to live. During the time I lived in Northamptonshire (95-07) I never heard anything about the steel works. My overriding memories of Corby was that it was bland, had a fair few roundabouts and a lot of the residents there spoke with Scottish accents.

Just out of interest our work website has a link to a tv show either called West Coast Cops or Brit Cops Down Under. It’s following a group of British cops who made the move over here with the international recruitment campaign we did recently. Anyone watched it?

Not me mate. I was one of the first wave 18 years ago now….that makes me feel old!! We kind of paved the way. I think it’s a lot easier in some respects for those coming over now. There’s a lot more acceptance. Be interesting to see what you and others think of the series though.

Just finished watching it, and thoroughly enjoyed it EJK. Most of the officers transferring over were very experienced and had attained the rank of sergeant in the UK. What stood out for me was their seamless integration into the WA Police Force, despite their initial struggle at Police College.

The programme highlighted their personal struggles around emigrating, but all bar one settled and said they wouldn’t return to the UK except for holidays.

It was also interesting to hear a senior officer from Perth and other Aussie officers, saying how welcome the UK officers were and praised their interpersonal and communication skills and their ability to diffuse incidents before they escalate.

There’s also the obligatory Mackem in it who comes across brilliantly, a young officer called Michael Wilson. Always joking and having a laugh but appears to be very good at his job. I’m not sure what station in Perth he is posted to but he spends a couple of months at Halls Creek, a real eye opener that one <laugh>

I saw a trailer of it at work. Was the senior officer a female Senior Sergeant with blonde hair by any chance? If so, she was my boss for a while.

Old Col must have made a lasting impression on you EJK :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I found the whole series very interesting, not least because I recognised most of the places around Perth.

The Aussie police officers working with the Brits were very complimentary and appeared thankful to have experienced officers around them on the streets. I get that the programme will have been edited but once out of Police College, they appeared to adapt to the job seamlessly, way above what I would have expected for officers still under probation.

There was a particularly harrowing scene when one recruit attended a fatal RTC and despite his limited time over there, immediately took charge of the crime scene. There were other officers in attendance before he got there, but his UK experience kicked in. He secured the crime scene, arrested the driver, looked after the welfare of those in attendance and then handed over when the detectives arrived, it might have been filmed that way to make a point but it did seem genuine to me.

I wonder if the UK recruits went over to WA on Leave of Absence, because the one who returned to the UK had 30 years service and was one year from his retirement date . It’s hard to think that he would throw that away if he didn’t have the security of a job available on return.

We were recruited for our general policing experience although in the beginning we were very much out of our comfort zone. Once I found my feet I was fine.
Different forces had different policies. My old force in England wouldn’t let me take a career break although other forces allowed it. I know some went back though. There was one lad on my intake from Avon and Somerset who lasted two months before he decided to go back. Some just used the cops as a method of getting their PR visa, which was granted straight away, and left very soon afterwards.
To be honest I hope the series piques the interest of cops back there. The job here is definitely different than England with different issues but I certainly haven’t regretted the move and Australia has given our family a great lifestyle.

If you do watch the programme, it would be interesting to get your perspective. As a serving police officer, I bet it will be completely different to mine :emoticon-0102-bigsm
WA is such a beautiful place, it's hard to imagine people not settling but I know quite a few who haven't. My mate who worked for Group 4 in Perth Court is now back in the NZ Prison Service. As an old codger, it's too late for me now but given my time again I would be over there like a shot <ok>

Watched the first 4 episodes of LOL: Last One Laughing UK on Prime last night, absolutely hilarious at times. If you haven't heard of it., they put comedians together into a room and they try to make each other laugh. However they're not allowed to laugh or smile. Last one in wins. Bob Mortimer, Joe Wilkinson, Rob Beckett, Richard Ayoade, Judi Love, Sara Pascoe are some in the room with Jimmy Carr (who's looking seriously plastic these days) hosting

It really does surprise me that in my old force all I see is negativity towards it. As you rightly say it’s not for everyone but I thought there might have been more interest than there has been.

Just watched it in two sittings and my first thought was I'll never get those four hours back into my life again.
Didn't see what all the hype was in the media....opinions eh!
