I wonder what the referee and VAR made of Jolintons assault on Elliot towards the end of the game? Elliot was sprinting forward to join an attack and Jolinton grabbed him around the upper body/ neck and flung him to the ground. Was this not a red card for violent play? It was well away from the ball. Jolinton is a nasty piece of work
was a clear red card but don’t think they wanted to ‘ruin’ the moment by giving it with seconds to go
What do you what us to do let you score a last minute equalizer and maybe get to 150 years before someone says ENOUGH
The argument isn’t that Joelinton shouldn’t have done it - admittedly there was no need as it went to lfc player anyway so he didn’t ’stop’ anything by doing it - argument is he should have got a red card for it but officials didn’t fancy doing it. Tbh Joelinton should be booked after about 30 mins every time I ever watch him. The amount of fouls he’s make is incredible but some reason has that ability that Fernandinho used to have for city and now Rodri has where gets about 7 fouls before yellow comes out.
The best team won regardless mate but yeah it was a yellow not seen. He's a top player Joelinton. I actually think the trippier thing was actually a handball, but finally we get our day. You'll win the league so that's a bigger one.
Perhaps from his point of view, but he still should have received the appropriate punishment for it. It's not about sentiment, it's about fair play. It's fair that you won, you were the better team and deserved to, but in the interests of justice foul play should always be punished accordingly. In the long run it's in the interest of us all to have the officials do their jobs properly - what goes for you in one game can go against you the next.
Personally think Joelinton should have been sent off for the deliberate "tipping" of Diaz in the first half but know the refs won't do that but how he wasn't given a yellow is beyond me . As Bisc said how he constantly gets away with his ****housing is just odd .
Personally Newcastle deserved it because we were awful. They did what they did and we were simply not capable of doing anything. Pathetic long ball stuff cos we could pass it or move. Couldn't get close to anything, no second balls, could jump or win it, couldn't bring each other into tjr game. Tactically inept as well. But Newcastle still had to do the job and they did, and did it well. If there was ever a fan base that deserved a grand day out at Wembley it's Newcastle.
Agreed. I would much rather Newcastle win it than Arsenal or Man City. I think their demolition of Arsenal in the semifinals was excellent. I still think Jolinton is a thug though
no one has sdaid the Toon didn't fully deserve the win just Joelinton got away ,as normal, whit loads
The world knows what that failed forward is. If we were any good we would have pinned them in and dominated but we just back passed to kelleher then hoofed it. Their press wasn't even good. The fact that they could take the ball down in the middle from.a bouncing ball and have nobody near them just shows how far off it we were. Finally chiesa praise. Yeah he finished He also happened to find himself in the two miles of gap the existed between the Newcastle cbs all day. I find it hard to be praising anyone but at least he finished. But let's not think he can play, his legs are gone and his condition is poor. We have not tuned him round. Instead jota and nunez were so ****ing bad they failed to find that space all day. Newcastle pushed burns over towards salah and schaar towards Diaz to double up and there was a gap szoboszlai and jota should have drove through. Our two winger should have stayed wide and let them. Quansah should have been moved to cb as soon as konate came off and frankly we should have made a rb out of endo. The fact quansah wanders to some inverted rb slot and stood there not knowing what to so was symptomatic of the tactical failure of slot. He only had what 6 corners to see what burns was at. No change. He had to see us passing back to kelleher and having zero right side so just losing it up the park on hoofs. Surely you instruct qunasah to just stand wide then. Those are all our fault. They are not Newcastle fault and they played what they had which was a lad with a bad leg at rb who was never ran at and a fast lad up top who was hoofed at most of the game. They ran themselves into the ground for their result and deserved it for doing so. A classic final it was not, but finals rarely are.
Was strange, like we were just looking to coast to a 0-0 half time score line. There was no urgency when we had the ball whatsoever. Just pass it backwards, never take on a man.. You'd think we started the game 3-0 up the way we were carrying on.
Yeah. Zero energy. Just walking into it. They were just hoofing it at isak who couldn't get anything off vvd and we were hoofing it right back at them Players just not supporting each other, not really bothered. Just burned out and not capable. But the reality is this. Would you stsrt nunez over jota? Would you start gakpo and put Diaz in the middle? Would you start endo over gravenberch? Would you start Jones? Would you start Elliott? Would you start tsimikas over Robertson? Slot made one change i would never make if given the choice but he picked alisson on the bench and frankly it cost him
I wouldn't have started Jota as he hasn't offered anything at all that I can remember since returning, maybe would've thought about Jones replacing one of the midfielders too for extra energy and it would've gave us a good option from the bench if needed.
I find it absolutely incredible that people want a sportswashing club to win anything. I used to like Newcastle but seeing their fans running around with tea towels on their heads after the takeover changed my view completely. I don't care how long they've waited for a trophy. Allowing these sorts of owners isn't the way to do it. Half a billion spent - one trophy. Well done.
Slot's defence in his presser was that 'nobody scores with a header from that far out' i.e. beyond his zonal defence. Ever seen Burn play?
It's not the first time a team as gone man-to-man with us and we've struggled. Going man-to-man means we don't have a free man and kills our passing/ possession game. No matter what formation we played, and there were some crazy ones from us in that game, they stuck with man-to-man and we didn't have an answer. That's why it kept going back to Keheller and then we huffed it.
