....get Koren's contract sorted out ASAP.

His contract ends in June so during this coming transfer window teams will come in for him, probably German Bundesliga, Dutch and Russian teams. He is a talent who is starting to be played in the right area of the park, to replace him now would be very expensive.

I think it is pretty safe to say without Koren we would have at least 7 or 8 less points so far this season. I know he has his critics (god knows why) but when he does leave us he is going to be incredibly difficult to replace.

Don't assume he's on his way, there's a chance a new deal has already been signed.

    Possibly.

and last season we would have probably have had the same without Gerrard. Life goes on. If he goes then someone else comes forward. Unless we find an adequate replacement I think we will miss Barmby from the bench alot more in the shorter term

We certainly need additions to the squad that's for sure. We have no game-changers on the bench at all these days, pretty much limiting Barmby's substitutions.

Koren didn't say that, Adam Pearson did. AP said something along the lines of: 'we won't allow Koren to leave before his contract is up unless a silly amount is bid for him, if it isn't - brilliant, we're happy to keep him. We'd like to offer him a new contract, but I think of someone of his quality in the position he'll be in come the summer, I think he'll take the option to sign for someone for one last big pay day, as he's of that age now - and if that's the case, then that's fine because he's earned it'.

I think he will have to balance what he wants, a bigger paid day, but spend a lot of time possibly bench warming, or a reasonable contract and the chance to play week in week out, as he has with us.

we should pull out all the stops to give him a new 2 years contract and not balk at a re-signing on fee

Apparently Koren is our highest paid player (not including the Premier League old boys who we can't move on) on around 10,000p/w. To get him on a new contract would surely mean we'd have to increase his salary by a couple of grand a week. Will our wage structure allow that?

Unless I have misunderstood what Barmbs said on Blunderside on the way home the deal is done.

Koren is here until the end of next season.

Yes he confirmed that the original deal was a 2 year contract with an option of a third and we've taken that option (which will have to have been agreed by both parties)

Great news but i think we'll see a similiar thread to this in a years time!
