That's 9 points from 5 games, 9 goals scored in those games and although there's only been one clean sheet we've seen us play more attacking football than we have for a long time. Aside from the last 15 minutes against Burnley, Nick has done well so far and Pearson's departure doesn't look as detrimental as it might have been. I think few of us expected to win at Southampton even if NP was still in charge, and the last 2 wins against promotion rivals has probably helped to establish us a genuine contender for the top 6 this season. The last few games have seen Robbie Koren produce his best form for the club, Fryatt has started scoring goals and taking his chances again and we have a fit Cameron Sewart back in the team. Add to that the improvement from the likes of Gulasci, Evans and Mckenna then things are going well for us, and although I don't fully expect us to finish in the top 6, I think we have as good a chance as any of the other teams, we just need to keep working hard and getting the results we need. Well done to Nick and the lads, looking forward to been back for the Millwall game next weekend where we can hopefully get revenge for our defeats against them last season!
Mckenna has looked a different player maybe due to the more time on the ball he has had but i do not recognize him to the player we had at the start of the season. No-one really let the side down tonight that was the key to that performance.
Time to make him the manager .. I did have doubts when he took charge but for me he now deserve a 2 year contract ..
some of the football we play at times is fantastic, i know we where getting there under flathead, but it was often nice to look at while getting not very far, a lot of sideways passing, under barmby there seems to be a real cutting edge.. dont look as sound defensively, but that goes with the territory when you play more attacking, its much better to watch, while hopefully continuing to pick up points.
It seems the players are playing for Nick, he has made a couple of astute tactical changes in the last couple of games which have worked well, I`m sure he will have learned from the train crash against Burnley... I don`t think it`s a case of give him the job because the job is his if he wants it, its all down to Nick and if he feels ready to take it, from what I`ve seen so far, although he is learning in the managerial game, he has enough about him to succeed with us. Keep it going Nicky boy, and great performance tonight, especially the second half by the lads, every one of them put a proper shift in. Onwards and Upwards
can't say it much fairer than that The one thing that has urked me a little bit about lots of city fans recently is the theory that the defence is sound and NB just needs to concentrate on goals. But with more attacking football comes more chances for the opposition, so it's a balancing act. Which we got absolutely right today, they had one or two chances that came from lack of concentration (the one on one in the first half came about far too easily) but overall the defence looked very strong and it took a very neat bit of play and finish for them to score. As for the job Barmby's doing, I'm very impressed so far. There's no rush to make anything official until at least January when he's got to persuade other players to sign up, the ones that are here now all know he's the man in charge in all except title.
Barmby is waiting to see what budget he will get in January. He knows all about Pappa Allam's austerity measures and he knows we will not be able to maintain a challenge without squad strengthening. If he gets a decent budget and the players to strengthen the squad, he will say "show me where to sign". Clever lad!
Just remembered we've now won the same amount of home games as we did in all of last season and we're not even into the new year yet. Another sign of progress and improvement from the team, the away form has levelled our a bit more but I think we all expected that.
Another weird comparison, last year we couldn't stop drawing matches, this year we've had 3 in 20 games and the team isn't even that much different.
i think thats good about the draws, i say this a lot but sometimes if we have 2 hard games in a week, i say id be happy to take a draw in both..and my mate just says surely its better to win one and lose the other...stating the obvious really, but it is..sometimes you hear about a team being unbeaten in 10 and it sounds real good, until you find out theyve drawn 9 of them, go for the win ! draws are for wimps!
We're getting even less of them lately, under Barmby I'm confident we can score a couple every game, whereas for whatever reason, it wasn't the case under Pearson.
i am going to say one thing in pearsons defence, and enjoy it because it wont happen again..ha ha but barmby has had the advantage of stewart, which pearson was denied for a long time..that may be part of the reason
Stewart is stupidly good. Has he actually been tackled yet since coming back from injury? 5 games and he's made 4 goals. I'm pretty sure he's still supposed to be getting his fitness back at the moment anyway, can't wait to see him in full swing
it was nice to see him set up that goal from the right wing, i know hes a danger cutting inside from the left, but i do like to see a right footed winger getting on the outside and whipping a cross in with a right foot/ and vice versa from the left, rather then curling in all the time.....its good to have the option of both
It's been a good night, so you all have my permission to wake up with a smile on your faces tomorrow. Night all.
