My general point is that British culture isn’t some vague, flexible concept - it’s rooted in Christianity, tradition, and centuries of hard-earned values. (I actually agree with Loading that there are other factors that pre-date Christianity too. I would say that he hugely underestimates Christianity’s importance though). However, the fact that this even needs to be said shows just how far we’ve fallen. I guess I’m trying to say that if we don’t define & defend the idea of ‘British culture’, we will lose our culture altogether. Simple as that. We seem to be constantly being told that there is nothing to be proud of; when in fact there is. Like all countries we have our fair share of terrible stuff. But we also have done so much good in the world. The reason why I get annoyed at Loading, jabbo, chilco and the liberal left’s ideas in general is because their entire mindset is toxic as well as being a giant hypocrisy. They live their entire life in a safe, wealthy, privileged country and yet their entire ideology undermines the very same country that has worked incredibly well for them. They hate capitalism - yet work and earn a living in that system They use copious amounts of energy every day - yet claim that climate change absolutely terrifying They hate Christianity - yet have benefited all their lives from a safe and protective legal system and state that was literally founded on Christianity. I just see it all as extremely ill-thought out. It’s so ungrateful and so hypocritical to read their complaints about it. Especially capitalism. You can only think like this if you are unaware of history and of how bad the alternatives are. Also… The two-tier stuff is NOT racism or some kind of dog whistle like loading thinks. It is a genuine concern that British people are now being treated differently due to a kind of suicidal empathy in the political class. These fears are well founded and there is a lot of evidence for it if you care to look.
