The Memorial Match Thread for former Leeds United player Garry Speed and Sócrates who played football for Garforth Town. ESPN have their thread here and the BBC here WATFORD 1 v 1 LEEDS UNITED Michael Kightley - goal 28 mÃn. 1:0 Carl Dickinson - caution 90 +4 mÃn Robert Snodgrass - penalty 90 + 5 mÃn. 1:1attendance 13.573 View attachment 8712 The Hornets welcome former the League Champions and Fairs and FA Cup wining team to Vicarage Road, if Nottingham Forest can still claim things like that so can United. Watford • The Manager – Sean Dyche View attachment 8714 “The mentality has been good all season, sometimes it just takes time, we haven't got the finances for players where you just throw them on the pitch and say 'go on then, get on with it.” “We have bought players who we think can develop and that development takes time. It is just beginning to gel, we have round pegs in round holes, if you like, and people are starting to play the way we want them to and be effective.” • The Hornets 1 Scott Loach 2 Lee Hodson, 6 Adrian Mariappa, 33 Nyron Noseworthy, 3 Carl Dickinson - caution 90 + 4 mÃn. , 07 Mark Yeates, 19 Prince Buaben, 32 Jonathan Hogg, 4 John Eustace for 18 Michael Kightly - goal 28 mÃn. - 76 mÃn. 09 Troy Deeney, 20 Marvin Sordell Substitutes: 30 Jonathan Bond, 21 David Mirfin, 4 John Eustace, 10 Chris Iwelumo, 37 Craig Beattie Update on the Hornet's latest statistics Leeds United • The Manager – Simon Grayson about Millwall and Gary Speed “It’s been a fantastic week on the football side: six goals, two clean sheets, and two wins. It’s a fitting tribute to Gary. Everybody can be extremely proud of how they’ve conducted themselves this week. It’s been a difficult week but there’s still many, many difficult times ahead for people who knew Gary” "But our fans can be proud of the way they have conducted themselves and so can the players for a performance which has been befitting to Gary’s contribution to this club. The biggest tribute we can pay him come April and May is to get into the Premier League, where Gary spent a huge amount of his career and was very successful." • The Peacocks 21 Alex McCarthy 2 Paul Connolly, 3 Patrick Kisnorbo, 22 Tom Lees, 28 Aiden White 15 Adam Clayton, 44 Ross McCormack for 11 Lloyd Sam - 63 mÃn., 16 Danny Pugh, 10 Luciano Becchio, 23 Robert Snodgrass - penalty 90 + 5 mÃn., 07 Mika Vayrynen for 38 Andrew Keogh - 63 mÃn. Substitutes: 01 Andy Lonergan, 48 Darren O'Dea, 07 Mika Vayrynen, 08 Michael Brown, 44 Ross McCormack Update on the Whites’ latest statistics Who will win? Current form Leeds have a nasty habit of winning more games than they lose and scoring goals. In the last five games four wins and one defeat with ten goals marked and three against. Watford for all the bad results have lost only one in their last five as well, but have only two wins. Their goals are not as good six marked for and four against. Another minus point is Watford have won fewer points each month of this season than United. This game last season Richard Naylor’s goal in the 6. minute separated the teams in a game that United just managed to win. The teams were very equal in every aspect except cautions and possession, Leeds won both by three yellow cards to one and 55% to 45%. The game was also Troy Deeney and Jordon Mutch’s first for Watford and Ross McCormack’s for Leeds United, even if he was a substitute in the second period. The win for Leeds left them in the play-off seats and Watford in the middle of the league, so not much is different in front of this meeting. Akureyri's Prediction: 2-0 The Hornets will want some revenge for last season and even Leeds’ better form will count for nothing as Watford will win easily. Time for another paragraph of Into the past There is no history of games before October 1984 when Watford won 0-4 in a League Cup match in Leeds. No mention of the Hornets 3-0 Championship Play-off win as it was on a neutral ground. So games in Watford. Leeds have gained three wins Watford two and two draws. Six goals marked for the locals and seven for the visitors. This is reading ill. Odd thing is neither team has managed more goals than two in one game. skál/skÃ¥l/cheers/salut Don't forget Drop in to The Hornet’s Nest for some match chat. great thread as ever Ak, and nice sneaky mention of the play off final . Looking forward to this one, should be a good game Oh yes, and my prediction ...3-1
We've got to win this one if we're serious about going for auto. I'll go for a hard fought Leeds win with a Rosco goal off the bench.
Nice article mate. Expexcting a tricky but decent match. Got a good feeling we'll win this, couple for Becchio
Nice one AK' 5*s again. And a for mention of the drubbing in wales all those years ago. I have gone for 2-1 with us scoring early, then conceding late in the 1st half and scoring again late in the 2nd. Yeates and Deeney for us.
You went full out with this match thread. Is he like this every week? If so, Leeds-18 you need to up your game mate, hes embarrassing ya. Anyway, I can imagine nothing but a Leeds win. As has already been said, if we are serious about an auto promotion spot, we need to be picking up the consistency and no offence to watford but be winning games like this. I expect a 2-1 win with Snoddy and Pugh with the goals. I reckon we will line-up like this: -----------------McCarthy--------------- Connolly------Lees------Kissa-------Pugh -------------Clayton----Vayrynen--------- Snoddy----------McCormack---------White ----------------Becchio------------------- Except i would much prefer keogh in place of becchio as most leeds fans would already know.
He most definitely is ...usually our wonderful match threads are appreciated only by Watford fans, but it's good to see some opposition come on the boards!
And what's more, his predictions are always correct - it's almost as though he creates the thread after the match has finished.
Leeds are tricky customers, but we've been playing well too. Think it will be fairly high scoring.....will go 2-2
I've been scouting this guy for a while. PM'd him to say he'd better get it started pronto or some eager upstart would beat him to it! And no-one would want that to happen. Maybe we'll have to convert him to be a Leeds fan. Agree this will be a win for us. Easy 4-0 mauling I reckon. Watford are weak and poor. 22nd in the 'vs top half' table, plus our away record has been excellent this season and I see no reason for that to change. My team would be: Becchio Sam - McCormack - Snodgrass Pugh - Clayton White - Kisnorbo - Lees - Connolly Lonergan McCarthy's gone back to Reading now, and I think Pugh would be more effective in the middle than Vayrynen who seems a little bit vacant. Doesn't have the same bite that DP does.
