As already said, you don't need to invent a new punishment when one already exists. And what a butchery of the game that would be - a corner?? Just enforce the rules as they are. The biggest deterrent is a booking for holding onto the ball too long. Book the keeper once and he won't do it again. Two strikes and you're out. It's already in existence.

Good if implemented properly but if, as you have already alluded to, the referee is responsibility it'll just be yet another rule that was introduced that's forgotten about because it wasn't followed
Whatever happened to the freekick being moved ten yards when players don't retreat? What about the numbers times we've been told players will be booked for surrounding the ref, arguing with the ref and waving an imaginary card? Leaving these, what are considered to be, petty rules to the ref will inevitably fail to materialise because they just don't do it.
I've said a few times that the main difference with these poor decisions is that we just get the job done anyway so who cares. Arsenal usually drop the points, so their contentious ones become the highlight of the week.
You're right. Even being booked for an obvious dive is rarely given. The thing with this new rule, if it comes in, is that it's making a nonsense of existing rules. A corner is only given when the ball goes over the end line. A throw in is only given when the ball goes over a sideline. A penalty is only given ... etc etc. It's just ridiculous to now start mixing and matching what types of play lead to what types of 'consequences'. Goalkeepers timewasting is happening more and more which is probably why they are considering a different punishment. Just tell club managers to instruct their goalkeepers to not waste time or they will be booked. There's no need for any other measures being brought in.
From Law 13 3. Offences and sanctions If, when a free kick is taken, an opponent is closer to the ball than the required distance, the kick is retaken unless the advantage can be applied; but if a player takes a free kick quickly and an opponent who is less than 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball intercepts it, the referee allows play to continue. However, an opponent who deliberately prevents a free kick being taken quickly must be cautioned for delaying the restart of play. If, when a free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than 1 m (1 yd) from a ‘wall’ formed by three or more defending team players, an indirect free kick is awarded. I know I'm nitpicking, but why is a ref, especially a continental one, supposed to measure out 9.15m for a free kick, but not be arsed about the difference in the latter circumstance? Just make it all metric, FFS, and make the wall 10m.
VAR saw that we weren't playing well enough so deliberately gave a goal to Saints so we'd try harder.
It's just not British! Tbf, refs just pace it out, so the margin of error is pretty hefty anyway. Perhaps the ref should be issued with a laser distance measuring device? I'm sure all the lovers of pointless technology would approve.
It's always a bit worrying when the VAR is accused of missing an obvious infringement (especially by another referee) when the only job they have is to look for infringements. Is checking for a foul and an offside in the same frame too much for them? It's not like they are instructed what to look for/at, they are the ones initiating the check.
Going back to the previous page Adidas discussion... my problem with Adidas is that it will be an Adidas kit first and a Liverpool kit second. Yes, fewer disastrous designs, but they're all just Adidas kits with Liverpool and sponsor added as an afterthought. Adidas kits all look more or less the same.
But then they take 8 mins to check an offside in the fa cup on one hand and on the other a non var lino missed a massive offside. The pressure is on to get every result 100% and instantly. in ye olden days pre var nobody would be looking at that goal for anything bar the fact vvd did something utterly stupid. I'm happy with marginal calls going largely down the middle as long as the egregious is being ironed out. When vsr left off odengaard for a clesr hand ball thats not good enough. When var check a clear wrong flag for offside. Declare that it is onside then miscommunicate thsts not good enough. Whether the first pen yesterday was or wasn't a pen is down to opinion. The ref gave it. On another day another official wouldn't. The second pen was stonewall and missed. Half the kop probably missed it too judging by the shout.Var at least showed it to the ref. As you say thry just have a process to run through and they should be calling it out. Konate one v psg. A check for offside? Maybe. A check for pen? Probably A check for a red card shove outside the box to deny a goalscoring chance? Yes We just don't know what they checked. Same for that goal. Did they check offside as the ball is played? I don't know. Did the check player contact? I don't know. Did they check small one was level with the ball? I don't know. Thsts really the issue. I don't want a blow by blow for every single goal live. But the transcript should be routinely published so there's no doubt later.
Cruel. Seriously, one of my main issues with VAR in principle is that it is actively looking for ways to rule out a goal. Technically that is fair, of course, but just seems mean-spirited and petty. Disallowing for a serious offence, yes, but the tiniest margins are being used, and the loss of the spontaneity and excitement of goals has spoiled my enjoyment of the game massively.
It only seems thst way as it only kicks in rarely for red csrd offenses. Most of its job is checking goals. So it has a lot more to find wrong than it has to see right. If the lino keeps his flag down and a goal goes in then raises his flag after is vsr really looking for a reason to deny the goal or just check the verdict? One thing it rarely does is what it did Saturday. Usually the threshold for a pen being given is massively high if a ref has not given it.so it generally is only reviewing that a ref subjectively decided and seeing if its massively clear like that handball was. It should not be var's job to referee a game. Imo tje worst part of it is when refs point tother ear and shrug like they have abdicated responsibility. The refs should be looking at the incident if it's thst big and talking it out.
We all agree and accept that refs on the pitch make mistakes. However, a VAR should not be making any mistakes especially errors of omission.
