With regards to Roberts wingers are there to provide spaces and open up defences for strikers to score goals, yes he has not scored many goals however when I watch him he seems to be carrying out alot more defensive duties than previous seasons He also tends to draw 2/3 opposition players around him when on the attack. His play also allows Hume to get space for crosses etc. So all in all he's a big part of the team even though he's not prolific in the goal department. Over the history of football do wingers score a lot of goals?
Not really about this game alone but I’m all mixed up about how our game progresses throughout the 90 minutes. If we start off well like yesterday I’m now wondering how long we will keep it up or will we settle back and end up frantically defending. On the other hand, if we start off poorly I wonder how long it will be until we start playing as we can and put serious pressure on the opposition. I don’t know if I’m happy when we start well because I’m wondering how long it will last and I don’t know if I prefer us starting bad then improving. I know they’re young lads and inconsistent and I've tried to remember which is best for us, a slow start where we improve or a fast start where we lose control later on but I don’t really know. I know games ebb and flow but with us it appears more prominent. We can be very Jekyll and Hyde. I think Oxford was the last game we were consistently on top although we didn’t seem to take full advantage and only scored 2. There always seems to be only one goal in it with us. It’s exciting but no good for the blood pressure.
I don't want to Labour the point Disco but to compete goals ratio for a winger against a CH whose goals have all come from set pieces within the six yard box like yesterday's that even I would have a good chance of scoring....your not comparing like for like. Maybe we'll agree to disagree.
I don't think that at all, all the goals from our CHs this season have been virtual tap ins, Roberts would never find himself in those situations, anyhow like I said lets agree to disagree. All goals are very welcome whoever or however we get them.
Regarding the foul on Patterson. He may not have caught the ball but even if he’d got his fingertips to it the trajectory would have changed, maybe a corner, but somewhere different and probably not a goal. Having said that, Patterson is big enough and should be in total command of his area.
For the first twenty minutes yesterday with Roberts out wide right,Mayenda central and Mundle going at them on the left,we really did look as a good as anything in the league has to offer but unfortunately it never lasted through injury, but hopefully it was a sign of what we will be able to play like shortly, and that was without our top scorer on the pitch
we have to be perfect and theres no easy games saying that Burnley and Sheffield have to play each other, theyve both got coventry and sheffield have a derby. In addition to the likes of norwich and bristol who are chasing playoffs Convinced one if not both drops points before the international break, important we get 6 points
supporters in the moment think on emotions and not logic we werent perferct but we won by all accounts sheffield united werent perfect either winning by 1 goal important to keep things ticking over
his second touch yesterday after controlling it for the goal was sublime both moved the ball and his body in one motion and open it all up stupendous really
It was a foul on Patto if he give the one on NG by mundle, bloke just went on his knee. Just realised samed wasn’t involved, any news? Looks a real poor signing looking back now. Wonder if we’d have been better keeping ekwah
Noticed @Scout73 hasn't posted on this thread, always enjoy his input on the match threads. Hope all is OK mate.
Scary seeing the progression in Mayenda, thought he was quality yesterday. Forget that he’s a youngun too, 800k man what a bargain
Havnt seen him post in a while actually. Top poster. Might just be having a fun time away from the internet !
It went to 1-1 yesterday and I'm thinking how **** we are, can't hold on to a lead, blown any chance of top 2. We then score and hold on ( comfortably imho) and we are great again, showing we learning are capable of seeing games out . Top 2 is still a possibility. The main reason I don't post straight after a game as most of my comments are based more on emotion of the result rather than the performance.
