Cmon people. Watching the first half of the Newcastle game and there are so many positives. The squad looks good, the approach looks good, the spirit looked good.
We need a keeper who can play football as well as protect the goal but other than that we looked better than Newcastle and that’s saying something!

I’m not sure about a keeper who can play football - a keeper who can save shots

It's been a while and I don't want to dwell on Martin's time at the club(especially this season), this is the positivity thread after all.

But all change at the top is a chance for some renewed positivity.

I don't really care if we go down, just want to see some fight and have some excitement in the play.

Be interesting watching this develop and the transfer window will be extra exciting now, seeing who comes and goes.

I can get back to loving the club and being excited again. For a few games.

I’m okay with them, despite some idiotic decisions.

Zero positivity around the club at the moment, but I found this in my loft. About the only positive we have at the moment is revisiting some of our highs from yesteryear!! Cracking match and result, some interesting names, Potter came on as a sub in that game. The United team was unreal, what a bloody fantastic result!!

Le Tissier's goal in that match should be held up as one of the best goals ever in English football.

And it's not even his best personal goal!

I wasn’t at the game, sadly, but I wandered down to the Dell to bask in the atmosphere at the final whistle!

Weird init, cos the Man Utd goal is basically the Blackburn goal, but with far less space to operate in and technically just far superior. The chip alone is about a one in a hundred likelihood imo. The Blackburn one more like one in ten.

Understandably, spectacular goals are appreciated more than those that are technically brilliant. But when you consider the team it was against, the brilliance of Peter Schmeichel and that he (PS) was standing on the 6 yard line that goal was just unequalled in it's resplendence*. He also made McClaire and May look clueless.
I never get tired of watching the flick up and volley free kick either.
What I like about Le Tissier is not just his ability but that he had quite likely planned to chip Schmeichel if the opportunity arose. The goal of the season against Tim Flowers, he had told Tim he was going to do that before the game. The flick up free kick, he had discussed doing it with
Lew Chatterley before the match. That's why he runs to the dugout after he scored.
Le Tissier could do what he wanted and I'm convinced that chipping Schmeichel would appeal to him, he was the best in the team and he knew it. Doing things like that made him tick. To have had someone that good play all his career at Saints is a privilege that is unlikely to happen again.

*I had used brilliant and brilliance already so I googled for something else. I will be using resplendence a lot more from now on. Thanks to lewebster for reposting this thread and reminding us all that Saints haven't always been ****.

No doubt he’d planned it - the week before, Philippe Albert had chipped Schmeichel as Newcastle beat them, I think 5-0. He’d have noted that.

I'd say that his first against Newcastle was his best personally but it's all about personal preference I guess.

Yeah I think he actually mentioned that in his book.
