A new bar has recently opened with the owners' ambition of changing things up with Hull's nightlife scene.

Max Hamm, 19 and Matthew Chester, also 19, co-own Coast Bar in 50 Holderness Road near Witham. The friends decided to open the bar to 'breathe new life' into Hull's music scene by providing a stage for local bands.

"We got the idea late last year to open something that would bring something new to Hull. I've got a background in music and Matthew has an idea about bars so we thought we'd mix it all together and open up a new cocktail bar."

The cocktail menu features house-made drinks whose names are inspired by famous songs from Hull bands, as well as classics such as margaritas and martinis. There are also beers and cider on tap, including Stella, Kopparberg Crisp Apple, Fosters, Camden Stout, and Camden Pale.

On Friday, the bar is hosting Hull musician Dylan Ward who will be on stage from 8pm. On Saturday there will be a karaoke night. Sundays will be acoustic music with a relaxed atmosphere and Max says there will soon be a pool table too.

In the future, Max has lined up a band called Poet's Corner for Saturday, March 22, and a band called Horizon will play in April. Max said: "What we are really trying to push is bringing those local bands in and giving them chances to perform in front of you.

IMG_4550.jpeg The party have announced former professional boxer and gold medallist Luke Campbell as their candidate for the election in May. The candidate was announced at a ticketed 'rally' held at Hull's Connexin Live attended by the party's leader Nigel Farightage and party chairman Zia Yusuf. Around 2,000 members of the public also attended the event.

just got tickets to see The Enemy at Hull Uni, quite like that a few gigs are there again, only 25 minute walk for me , decent venue where you can see them.
going off big arena gigs after what seems like 5 days queing in online ques last year for the likes of Oasis and Pulp..

I highly recommend the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester. It's a next-level experience wherever you are sat.

God kid is Sam Fender - I've listened to a few of his interviews and read things that he's quoted, I love that one so young and talented has his head screwed on and has a great social conscience, you can see it in his song lyrics too; I believe he's a young Springsteen in the making!

it has nothing since Sportsman closed over 2 years ago.

Good luck to the lads trying this new venture, they will certainly need it.

Paul Heaton late show last night at Asylum, brilliant, Rianne Downey easily as good as Jacqui Abbott. Unplugged warm up show with a few guitars so you could really hear the vocals. Paul had plenty of chat about Hull, Grafton Street, East Park and the support from the Uni in his early days, great night.

I was at the early show. Agree it was fantastic though. I really think the pared back band suits his music

I was at the late show.
He very specifically said that the late crowd were better looking than the early crowd.
    Soz…
Cracking show, and Rianne Downey has a great voice, for the old stuff as well as the new album.
