There were rumours that there was an agreement that they could have Charles back on loan for the rest of the season if we could have Rohl in the summer. Seems a slightly odd one, but would make sense of the mess when he came back, then went straight back again.
Rohl was asked about all the speculation in his pre-match press conference today: “I must say, all the rumours around and topics don’t influence me,” he told the media. “That’s the main part. For me it’s about the next game, winning the next game with my group… After the last results where we didn’t win, our job is to bring us back. This is the main part, and where my energies are. It’s with Sheffield Wednesday, with my group, to do everything, We have meetings to prepare the team as much as I can, push them to the limits, and this is my main target and goal at the moment. It’s absolutely no problem for me, I’m not listening to left and right - my focus is here. I know what we have to do, I know my responsibility for the group here, for the club, for our massive fans. I think this is all that is important, not some headline… I think sometimes there is too much outside, and for me it’s no problem to avoid this. Everyone knows my contract situation, there is no reason why we should talk now about anything else. It’s only about the next game, and the next 11 games we should be fully focused on our performances and results - we want to get as many points as we can.” In other words, we'll see what happens at the end of the season.
Think it’s far too early to know one way or another really. Can’t see any reason why Rohl would commit at this stage
Yeah loads could happen and he could well get a better offer. Got a fairly decent run of games coming up too a promotion while unlikely isn't completely out of the question. I don't put much stock into the 'knows the club' thing personally. He spent less than a year here what, 6/7 years ago? Were under different ownership then too and no players remain either.
Bednarek and Stephens were definitely around back then, but I do agree with the point you are making.....however Spors could be key here, if Rohl had a really good relationship with him, this could help massively!
I think the ONLY thing in our favor at the moment is the possibility that Sporrs would be able to exert an influence. Our position, our morale, our squad, our culture all seem like big red flags to me. If another contact of his at a club in a better position comes in then I would fully expect him to switch tracks. We are heading into some moments of real jeopardy over the next few months. Getting it wrong could see us doing a Luton.
A tad melodramatic. We've got a much stronger squad than Luton for the Championship. I really don't think there's many red flags for Rohl to concern himself about Saints. He'll have a much stronger squad to work with compared to what he has now, he'll have money to spend, the morale will change quickly when we pick up wins most weeks like last time. A club like Saints is the natural next step for Rohl.
Stephens is out of contract in the summer I think, so it will depend on whether the club keeps him on. Probably time we let him move on, but it's a shame to lose someone who has been at the club over a decade. Also depends what THB wants to do.
Stephens, McCarthy and Bednarek the only survivors from that early Ralph era. Smallbone was also bubbling just beneath the surface as well.
Got another season yet (automatic year extension upon promotion), so he'll presumably be around next season.
I would say that should be a good thing, good squad player in the Championship and then we can wave goodbye once we have won the league and gained promotion at the first attempt!!
