The market is funny at the moment. For us we were saving too much money not to take the jump into buying. Also we had quite a specific are we wanted to buy in which can be expensive and when this one came up we couldn't let it go. Pretty much got a 3 bed for the same price all the 2 beds have been going for recently.

Looked at buying a house a few years back and we found a great 3 bed place overlooking the local harbour in a conservation area with a decent school nearby so it was the perfect place to bring up our daughter.

Spoke with the bank and they agreed the mortgage if the surveyors report was positive. The surveyor reported that the house had a strange layout and it was overvalued so the bank declined us the right to go ahead.

    Guess who bought the house?

    Yep. The surveyor.

    Bastard.

What a total ****. It was the surveyor that held up our mortgage, took him 2 weeks to sign off a survey. Judging by your story the fly **** may have been considering a bid!!

If it wasn't for Mum McMagpie I would have never got on the ladder. No one would touch me without a 25% deposit, the way of the world these days!!

Yes that is the problem! I am sitting tight and waiting for 100% mortgages to come back.

You should have made that public oT, his company would have done very little business after an incident like that. You find the property and he looks it over and then jumps in before you. Total lack of etiquette.

    £93k!!!!! 93!!!!!

ffs, I need to leave this rock. Be lucky to get a 1 bedroom apartment for £270k here, let alone a house!!!!

£500 a month here might get a disgusting bedsit with damp and structural deficiencies, but that would be with patience and luck. (to rent)

Good on you anyway mate, hope you build many happy memories there.

not606 seems to have turned into a day of firsts...and a day of 'oh aye, my family member is doing that' for me...

My sister (1 of 2 of them) has just bought a house with her Boyfriend...4 bedroom, parking, back garden and a basement that runs the whole length of the house - £100k down from the £120k original asking price (they'd wanted it originally but couldn't justify the extra 20k)

Anyway, congrats mate...I'm sure I'll be back on here in a few years time regurgitating these threads with my own stories, but until then - I'm going for my first trip to the xmas market tonight WOOOOOOOooooooaaaaaaaafuckit

Nice one. House warming? Do I need a passport to visit Scotland <laugh> Well maybe if your first minister gets his way.

We've been renting for 5 years, doubt we will have enough for a deposit for another couple of years. Unless the in-laws die <whistle>
