Let’s be honest, Rico Lewis and Phil Foden are overrated as ****, aren’t they? I’ve said it before but I think Lewis would struggle in the Championship. He’s not good enough defensively to be a traditional fullback, not quick enough or a good enough crosser to be a wingback who plays high and wide and not physical enough to be a defensive midfielder outright. Guardiola’s moulded him into this incredibly niche inverted fullback role where he’s good at moving into central midfield areas because he’s fairly tidy on the ball and press-resistant but that’s it. He’s bang average or worse at every other facet of football whether it’s defending, crossing, passing, shooting etc. Foden’s 24-years-old and people are still debating what his best position is. He gets a decent amount of goals and assists every season but he’s playing for the best team in the world. I do think he’s a good player but he’s not half the player Cole Palmer is, in my opinion. He’s not creative enough to be a playmaker so I can’t see him being a ready-made replacement for when De Bruyne eventually leaves or retires. Every time he’s played for England, he’s been toss. Doesn’t impact games enough for England. Even at Man City, he drifts in and out of games. Palmer on the other hand has been carrying a dysfunctional Chelsea team on his back and is younger.
