I was considering going on Tuesday, didn’t fancy driving from Manchester, so checked the train & it’s £50! Not direct! Over 2 hours! The return gets me in after 1am!
    No ****ing way!
So I’ll just ignore the game, go out for a meal & hope we get the result we need!

The game has certainly been over complicated these days imo and again imo, players are over coached. Absolutely everything is data driven these days, which in certain areas works great! But I also think it hinders if over used. Football is a game of instinct, quick thinking, determination, emotion and desire to score a goal/win a game..... A lot of those seem to be dwindling in the modern game ( bar the top top players ). The desire, in a lot of coaches, seems to be not to lose a game rather than go out and win a game and the players it seems to be, make sure you keep possession rather then take a chance to score and risk losing possession.

Get the ball in the onion net as many times as you can anyway you can but always more times than they do. That’s it.

Too many inexperienced and naive coaches wanting to copy Guardiola’s possession-based style of football with squads that don’t suit it. Russell Martin and Ruud van Nistelrooy being two embarrassing examples. Trying to play out from the back with Bednarek or Vestergaard in the Premier League against superior opposition and wondering why you’re losing every game and going straight back down. Actually makes me appreciate Nuno and what he’s done at Forest a lot more. They haven’t got the squads the other top clubs have so he plays to his players’ strengths. Target man up front in Wood and two rapid wingers in Hudson-Odoi and Elanga to hit the opposition with quick counter-attacks.

Yep coaches are out for themselves these days. Kompany/Maresca a prime example of how it can work and get you a top job but it’ll always back fire when you don’t have the ability to adapt.

Kompany irks me for some reason. I think it’s because he arrogantly thought he could play the same Guardiola-lite football in the Premier League with that Burnley squad. Don’t get me wrong, he did a good job reinventing that Burnley side after they got relegated with Dyche. He transformed them from being essentially a meme in English football because of their direct and ‘ugly’ style of play under Dyche into a slick possession-based team. He made some astute signings from Belgium in particular because of his knowledge of the Belgian league and they adapted well to the Championship.

What pisses me off about him is that he thought he could play the exact same way in the Premier League without any compromise. In terms of squad quality, they were the best team in the Championship during the 2022/23 season but when they were promoted back to the Prem, they were small fish in a big pond again and Kompany just refused to adapt. He got them relegated and was rewarded with the biggest coaching gig in German football. Literally failing upwards. He’s doing well at Bayern, I know, but they’ve got the strongest squad in the league by far.

I actually think Maresca should’ve stayed at Leicester but like you said, too many coaches are in it for their own personal glory. They treat clubs like stepping stones to bigger things. I think Maresca knew his Leicester team would get slaughtered in the Prem using his brand of football and he didn’t want to compromise his ‘philosophy’ so he jumped ship to a club with an abundance of quality.

And lets hope Selles does the same and use us as a stepping stone by first saving us from relegation and then getting us into the playoffs the following season. Then if not the premier league after the playoffs then as one of the autos the season after that, And then after keeping us in the premier league getting his just rewards when he moves to one of the top teams

Story of the season so far:

Ok, preseason hasn’t gone so well but we’re bedding in a new system with new signings- hopefully we’ll be good enough for a top six finish.

Ok, top six isn’t looking likely but once this system clicks we’ll be ok.

We’ve just won 3 games in a week, it’s clicked!

****, it hasn’t clicked, the German has to go!

    He has to go!!!!

    ****ING GO!!!!!!!

He’s gone and the new guy’s having a positive impact, we’ll be ok.

Things are picking up, strengthen in January and we’ll be ok.

    We’ve strengthened, we’ll be ok.

Hang on, we can’t score, that’s going to hinder us.

Yes we’ve beaten 2 top six sides, we’ll be fine.

****, we can’t score against sides that employ a low block, we’re ****ed.

It’s in the hands of the gods now.

Need to break the home curse on Tuesday. Too much info, but got really ****ty news last week and need something to help me keep on keeping on.

I still think the biggest problem is too many changes and inconsistencies in our starting 11 and it's been ongoing for some time... This season's been the worst by far due to the summer window, and our position shows the effect of it clearly.

All any team has to do against us is sit back and let us have the ball. They're almost guaranteed a point and will likely grab the win. To combat this, we need the players to be effective TOGETHER. If someone makes the right run, make the pass. If the pass isn't on, take the ****ing shot. Aimless crosses trying to pick out 2 sandwiched between 4 and a keeper isn't going to do anything.
