All this comes as no surprise sadly. The Guardian has been on a RW track for some time now and the sell off of the Observer to Tortoise Group has just sped up the process. The first notable casualty being journalist Carol Cadwalladr who has just been sacked after penning a piece critical of the deal. Freedom of the Press appears to only exist if you toe the (RW) party line or grovel at Murdochs feet....(Very little difference between the two...)

 

The Labour MP jailed for 10 weeks for punching the constituent has had the sentence suspended.
Frankly, that's a case of common sense prevailing. I don't care whether he's Labour, Tory or Monster Raving Loony, the guy was threatened, and at a time when prisons are overcrowded, jailing a first time offender for a relatively minor assault seems excessive.
The guy is an idiot and should be deselected and a by-election called, but a fine and compensation seems a more appropriate punishment.
