He’s also said the complete opposite in previous interviews about changing styles at Reading when it doesn’t work. We saw him make some tweaks already here.
Do we have to pretend it's unusual though? When was the last City manager who wasn't criticised for having a way of playing he wants to stick to?
Its arguable that it does. It half-solves the left back problem, but we don't have a left wingback either. That's about it. We'd be sacrificing a forward or midfield player for another CB which doesn't seem logical when the defensive record is mid table but offensively we don't score enough.
Plus you don't increase the attacking threat by playing more defenders. Defensive record is average, offensive record is well below that and has been the root of this year's problems.
Shouldn't have strengthened in Jan then by that logic, which is the reason for a lot of the changes. But we had to because what went before was getting us relegated. Of course you can train to a system so when changes are made players have developed an understanding of their roles.
I bet Amrabat could do a solid job at left wing back, Henrique should be able to as well, he has played the defensive positions on the flank before and seemingly done well at it. Macca at left back could work a lot better if we played more traditional football. That is also an option. He’s just not a marauding dynamic full back by any stretch which is what he’s trying to be recently. Because that is what the high intensity high pressing Selles ball demands.
So drop Geldhart or Barry to play a complete unknown quantity in a more defensive role. It's not the defensive form that's been our Achilles heel this season.
https://x.com/HDMHullCity/status/1895446351170695261 Hull City turned down a move for striker Joao Pedro in the winter transfer window, it has been revealed. The club were unwilling to let the experienced frontman leave at a crucial time of the season with the Tigers battling against relegation. Portuguese outfit Vitória Guimarães lodged a bid for the one-time Italian international earlier this month, but City batted those overtures away. I bet Pedro would have been tempted! 2 year deal too. Fair play that he's showing no signs of spitting a dummy out.
Pretty sure I said this about three weeks ago and Baz said it was rubbish. And people also baulked at me saying it was worrying we couldn't pay for a £3.5m player. Well. There it is.
