On the same day their assessor decides they should charge a Rangers player with diving to win a penalty, they also charge the Dunfermline manager for saying that the referee made a bad decision in awarding the penalty because the player dived.

Perhaps you should try reffing yourself. Courses cost £40 and you can ref sunday league games, after you pass a test of course. Failing that, we could try and play the game without referees.

It's a ridiculous rule that you aren't allowed to say a bad word about referees without getting banned. Managers frequently say that the ref had a bad game in the most calm and composed manner possible and they get punished for it, seemingly for stating their opinion. The worst one was Neil Warnock after his Palace side had a bad decision in their game and the linesman stood laughing about the decision straight afterwards, Warnock mentioned it in his interview and he got fined for it <doh>

No one expects refs to get every decision right, but the majority of refs don't help themselves. It's the insanely inconsistent decisions every single week, the double standards, the refusing to have any authority over anything that goes on inside the area because they don't have the balls to give a penalty, the bowing down to notorious cheaters like Jimmy Kebe and Robert Snodgrass and thus supporting their illegitimate careers. Anyone would think they are briefed to gradually phase out good, hard tackles, promote injury and advocate cheating, time-wasting and other forms of gamesmanship.

A linesman has to watch the defensive live constantly and monitor if any attacker overlaps that line whilst somehow knowing at what point the ball was struck 50 yards to his left without taking his eye off the line so he can decide when the attacker's position should be judged, and additionally check for the ball leaving the pitch on his side and keep an eye open for any nearby fouls. Despite this, they seem to get almost every offside call absolutely spot on. I have massive respect for linesmen because of this and rarely if ever feel the need to rain abuse on them, because they don't annoy me.

The ref (providing he knows the rules) just needs to implement some basic common sense. Instead they prance about thinking the game is all about them when it comes to petty free kicks in the centre-circle but as soon as the ball goes near the area and an important decision needs making they shy away and crap their pants. As such, I frequently get very pissed off at referees who have the much easier job but make it much harder for themselves with the way they go about it, and show no hesitation in giving them the verbal attention they seem to crave.

It is about time ref's are available after games to explain any decision they made, this would at least help to defuse a lot of these problems.

Not quite, I made 2 articles last week which were more specifically about refs giving us too many unnecssesary cards. This was a general referee rant ;)
