Was reading about assisted suicide and apparently there’s been a few cases where blokes with illnesses have coerced (or tried to) the wife to go for it at the same time.

Dementia maybe in this case.

I imagine one of them was ill, so they both decided to check out and took their pet with them.
1) Maybe because the dog was old and they loved it as a family member and wanted to die together
2) Giving it away before punching your own ticket would have tipped people off as to what they were planning
3) They didnt want the dog around alive to starve to death and/or eat their ****ing corpses after they had gone
