Nigel Adkins sacked by Tranmere Rovers, having guided them to the relegation zone in Division 4. Nice one Nigel, another triumph for your burgeoning CV Adkins is a great example of someone who talks a good game in life, but delivers very little. No doubt he will end up with another well paid job in football before long, but until then he can spend time making his bed and posting his “walking is brilliant” videos, plus practicing all of the other psycho babble that has served him so well.
That’s now. When you look at his overall tenure it’s been pretty good. My reference to harsh was not relating to his sacking it was in relation to your comments
His overall win rate at Tranmere was 32 wins in 74 games according to Twitter. Personally I found his style grating. He sounded as if he had swallowed a few motivational bibles from US business gurus. Not just the make your bed before you leave in the morning, or the walking is brilliant, also the “what are your 3 daily goals” guff. You don’t hear many successful managers speaking like this daily.
Poor old Tranmere. A kind of Scouse version of Leyton Orient - always in the shadow of big local neighbours, but most football neutrals have a soft spot for them. Maybe Saints would have Adkins back They can't do worse than they already are.
He’s made a nice few quid out of football. When Southampton replaced him with Pochettino (what an upgrade …) his pay off set him up for life.
I've always had a soft spot for Arsenal. Partly because of their origins in Woolwich, and partly because a colleague I once worked with for may years was a dedicated Gooner who had a season ticket for Highbury, back in the days when normal fans could afford one. But I have to conclude that under Arteta the Gunners will never win the Premier League. It has been blindingly obvious that Arsenal needed to sign a striker. The only reason they did not get one, is that Arteta didn't really want one. The 'attempt' to secure Ollie Watkins was a joke. Arteta must stand or fall by the decisions he makes. If second place forever is good enough for the owners then I guess he is safe. Champion's League qualification seems to be all that matters anymore. Being Champions of England doesn't seem to motivate Arteta. If I was an Arsenal fan I would want him gone.
Lardi - Re your Arsenal post - are you sure he didn’t want a striker? Are you sure he was not let down by their director of football and their board more generally?
