“Some can't be happy unless they find something or someone to be angry about” could be the motto of the whole forum tbh!
It’s interesting really because that concept of happy is at the heart of political difference, far more than any specific policy. The left looks forward, yearning for happiness in an imagined future that is somehow better and offers more opportunities. The right looks backwards, yearning for happiness in an imagined past that was somehow better and offered a sense of security they feel is missing from today.
I don’t know. Most of history is right leaning politics. Leftward thought is really a very modern thing. Not so long ago slavery and racism and homophobia were totally normal parts of life. Empires were good. Savages needed God. I know what you mean, that the intelligentsia who study history tend to be left-leaning but I think historians can be on either side of the political spectrum.
Well, to be fair to both sides, they are using this idea of happiness in other times to try to shale today’a world.
I'd much rather be progressive than regressive as long as the changes are for the good of society and the world.
