This might surprise you Lardy. 2012-13: Man Utd – £60.1m Man City – £15.9m please log in to view this image READ: Fergie’s farewell gift: Robin van Persie’s fairytale debut season at Man Utd 2013-14: Man Utd – £67.8m Man City – £94.2m 2014-15: Man Utd – £131.5m Man City – £65m 2015-16: Man Utd – £48.5m Man City – £126.7m 2016-17: Man Utd – £123.9m Man City – £161.7m 2017-18: Man Utd – £137.6m Man City – £203.5m 2018-19: Man Utd – £46.9m Man City – £18.9m 2019-20: Man Utd – £120.2m Man City – £88m 2020-21: Man Utd – £61.6m Man City – £91.5m 2021-22: Man Utd – £98.4m Man City – £36.6m 2022-23: Man Utd – £206m Man City – £18.4m profit Total net spend: Man Utd – £1.1215billion Man City – £1.2708billion So since 2013 up to 2023. Man United have spent 1.1215 billion and Man City have spent 1.2708 billion. So it is not just down to money. It is how the money is spent and how good the Manager is. Aren’t Birmingham buying the League one title?
If buying success is something to be admired in modern football, then I'm glad I'm out of it. Especially buying success with money from States that support terrorist murderers like Hamas, who are widely supported right across the Gulf. That's what makes Manchester City and Newcastle United particularly disgusting in my view. They have sold their souls to people who shelter and fund those who would happily see us all killed. Sports-washing is no better than front companies created by Organised crime syndicates. There is no difference between them and the gangs trafficking illegal migrants to the UK. Except that we are supposedly trying to 'smash' the traffickers, while gleefully selling ourselves to the sports-washers. And allowing Russian criminals to own half of London. We have become so corrupted and decadent that we deserve everything we get.
I agree with most of your eloquently emotive sentiments, Lardi, but not that we deserve everything we get. Us little people are powerless to stop those with countless pots of cash. We are the collateral damage and have no say over most nefarious business. The best we can do is avoid blood money and live decent lives, yet that is near impossible when the tendrils of evil invade every facet of modern day existence.
I would say the UK are not blameless. Selling weapons to places like Qatar and Saudi Arabia https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54435335
This day in 1979 we beat Leicester City 1-0 at The Valley in front of 8,000 supporters. A Keith Peacock penalty secured the points.
Keith Peacock a true Charlton legend. Back in the day we used to have a supporter who hated Peacock. He used to shout out things like: Hit him with your handbag Peacock.
This day in 1998, Wimbledon beat Villa 2-1 at Selhurst Park with goals from Carl Leaburn and Jason Euell. At the sane time, we went down 3-0 at Stockport. Still, it all worked out quite nicely.
I cannot believe the griping of some pundits about Amorim's time at Manyoo so far. "One of the jobs of the manager is to improve the players he has" was a comment today. Nearly all of the United players are steaming crap (by their previous standards). The new gaffer was brought in to change things - to play his system and bring success with it. The players have proved their unworthiness by being unable / unwilling to adapt their game. They are supposed to be World Class, but they have proven themselves to be bottom third class. Ruben Amorim must be fully backed in the Summer - to clear out a dozen dead wood players and bring in the men he wants. Then he can be judged next season. If United don't back him then they deserve to be a bottom half team for years to come.
Charlton Athletic won more League titles and Cups in 9 seasons as a non-league amateur team than we have in over a Century of professional football since 1921. Around a dozen of each. One thing we brought with us when we first moved into the Valley was a full trophy cabinet. Between 1906 and the 1st World War we never finished lower than 2nd in any local league, and were champions more times than runners-up. And the team often competed in two parallel leagues during any given season.
Rangers have sacked their manager, which is bad news. I'm up there on Wednesday to see them play my team, and now there will be new manager bounce.
This is the difference between the obscene football Fantasy of the Premier League and the harsh reality. Manchester United are axing more jobs. Over 400 empoyees will lose their livelihoods in total. Men and women who have done nothing wrong. Many oif them have worked for MUFC for decades. Ordinary working folk. The Club will save around £2m per year by getting rid of them. If United finish the season in 15th place in the PL, they will lose £20m compared to finishing 8th last season. And their £2m saving from putting 400 people on the Dole would pay one of their useless players for about 6 weeks. That situation is an utter disgrace. Cynical business exploitation is destroying English football.
Ruben Amorim says "players must take some responsibility" for Manchester United's financial problems. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cg70z0y318do If the players all took a 5% pay cut, the Club would save more money than it will by sacking 500 employees. Folk who are not rich. People who have mortgages or rent, and bills to pay. Will the players help them? Not a chance
