Gerrard elbowed someone in the head and got away with it but that didn't stop Liverpool fans calling for Rooney to be banned when he elbowed someone in the head.

I expect a ban, he shouldn't have done it but I like the guy.

I don't think Suarez will be banned and neither do I think he should be, he'll probably just get a fine.

However, ever since the FA bowed to public demand when Rooney got banned for swearing they have made a rod for their own back. For example is it worse to swear at a crowd containing kids or at a TV camera with kids watching ? Does the swearing worse to be seen or heard etc ?

For me what Ronney did was worse, however the FA can no longer been seen to do nothing with such cases after they banned Ronney for 2 games. I think it's simply playing to media expectations on this one and no ban will follow.

Suarez would be well advised to keep his head down and stay out of trouble though as he is currently creating a lot of headlines which aren't in relation to his football skills <ok>

I think you'll find that an extended middle finger actually signifies 'up yours', therefore not swearing. An extended index and middle finger signifies 'f..k off', which is swearing. However, being of Anglo Saxon heritage, I'm quite comfortable with the latter anyway <ok>

Come on now be serious, you want the fans to be reprimanded for chanting a word that is non-racial or Verbally abusive.
Do you want to ban people from boo'ing aswell maybe? Just trying to deflect negativity from what Suarez has done that was clearly wrong and innappropriate.

In that game the guy went down way too easy!

The middle finger has clearly always been used and deemed as an offence term, As you state it may not be implied as a swear word it is still deemed just as bad as all the rest. So dont try and make it seems as this kind of behaviour is acceptable.

To be honest, the media and fans have been on Suarez's case ever since Fergie criticised him.

Off-camera meaning it wasn't caught by the Sky cameras broadcasting the game, clearly...
Not a photographer standing close by.

Everyone is on Suarez's back ATM the best thing for Luis to do is not let it get to him although it is not easy said then done when you get abuse for the full 90 min It started at the derby game with the coins and then Fergie's comments then every game he is getting kicked to F.... No wonder he is sort of lashing out
I'm not saying that it was right for him to do what he done as the middle finger is world known as being offensive

But i think (hope not) the FA will give him a ban as this is the second time in what 2 months that his name is on their list

I first went to a game when I was six, nearly hrmmphty years ago. The chants of the crowd were foul-mouthed then and presumably always were beforehand. As kids we just took it in our stride- we heard it on the streets anyway.
I'm sure the players then were at least as bad as they are now- the difference was you couldn't hear them and you could hardly see them.
As ever, the real problem is the hypocritical media. They scrutinize every action looking for something to feign outrage about whilst they're actually rubbing their hands with glee.
Football matches are the watered- down arenas of today, people go there expecting blood and snot- the problem I suppose is having it beamed into homes in a detail that not everyone is happy with.

    Exactly my point Saint.

The media jump on these things now.

After the Rooney case, once this has been brought to the attention of the FA ( via the media ) the FA will look really silly, for a change, if they let this go after banning Rooney.

I hope they do let it go in this case for the good of the game or else there will be bans flying round all over.

Hope you didn't think I was disagreeing with you Eric, i was just reinforcing what you'd said.

Once upon a time there used to be a delay of a couple of seconds or so on live broadcasts so if anyone did or said anything untoward on camera the producer could switch to a different one. I don't know whether they still do that but I doubt it. Times have changed and few are bothered by this stuff but if the media think it's scandalous then they don't have to highlight it.
Pointless them playing their part in offending people then getting all pious about it.
