I'm not entirely sure 'why', but it's an interesting talking point to me and unfortunately it often comes across quite badly regardless of the motivations behind those sorts of comments. I think it's more about people doing whatever they can to have some sort of pop at the owner personally, but then what are the motivations behind that? Probably varies. I do think there's perhaps an underlying element of 'old-school' idealism at times where some would rather see English players performing well in an English league. I can kind of understand that, but a lot of these throwaway comments when we're in transfer windows just end up coming across really badly to me. Also, if I were to look back far enough I'm fairly certain I'd find the same sort of comments in our first transfer window under Acun, BEFORE we realised what we were getting into with Sinik. From memory Tufan took the biggest brunt of it all at first. I just find it weird... Not long ago someone on here said the players we've had from the Turkish league always end up going back there... I looked into that and when you take the loanees out of the equation then there was only Traore that fit that bill... So I don't know where that generalisation came from, but people seemed to agree with it at the time. It's often ironic too. People still seem to have it in for Pandur as 'an Acun signing' at times, yet have previously clamoured for Rushworth to come in, despite him quite openly being 'an Acun signing'. I don't understand where the negativity comes from, but as I'd initially said I hope between Pedro and Lincoln they can once and for all dispel it this season. Can't imagine it'll make any difference when certain names drop in the summer window. To be honest I'd say on comparison some of our better business has come from playing in the Turkish league.
You clearly haven't paid close attention when they tumbled out of the prem with massive debts, an American owner who ****ed them and 3 seasons in league 1 then? All since 2016. But if you want to think it's normal because it's all you've known then no one's gonna convince you otherwise.
I was meaning the way he came off. It looked as if he got injured doing nothing while the other subs were going off thus wasting a lot of time but not wasting a substitute stoppage. I've always wanted us to be better at the dark arts of football
And I don't remember them sitting at the bottom of the old 4th division. Also Sunderland, like Newcastle and M'Boro are one club cities/towns. They have tradition and have won silverware and they all have history of being in the old First Division. Up to a few years ago our history was winning the 3rd Division North, the 3rd Div title once, and once as runners up. Hardly a far comparison at all with the football clubs in the North East.
Sunderland, and Wednesday, had higher away followings in League 1 than anyone in the Championship including the TWS that season.
The difference in the north east is cultural. Not necessarily correlated with success though. Sunderland haven't been a big club since the 50's and in recent years our footballing history has matched or exceeded theirs. I'll agree that the football club is more a centrepiece of the community up here though. More of an unconditional way of life. And, if you want to see what a small, hardcore bunch of fans in the face of adversity look like then Gateshead would be a good place to look. V similar turbulence to us in the late 90s, except for them it's been going on since the 60's. Yes they'll berate shyte performances, but they don't create pernicious, self defeating narratives aimed at undermining the players, management or board to the extent ours do. They're just grateful to have a club.
You tell me seeing as you are so well informed. Maybe I didn’t see them as I have people on ignore? Oh, no, I don’t as only total ****ers do that.
Why do you hate Hull City coming out with stuff like that? Blubber, blubber, moan, moan. Why don’t you move there if you love them so much?
This is literally the funniest thing you've written and you don't know why, despite it being evident if you'd actually done more than scan read stuff and spouted off. F*cks sake....
